Please do not release this person. His severe disregard for not just authority, but human life is disgusting and he should finish his life in prison.

Once again spent a bit thinking about you, your family and the sacrifice made by each. Prayers of peace to all. It is simply unbelieveable what happens every day in Englewood. Prayers for all CPD and especially those CPD who work 007. We often wonder why bother? I suppose it is good for the rest of us that you and fellow officers are way ahead of wondering that.

I felt the need to reach out to Kurt Kaner today and leave a message here that hopefully he will see. My name is Jackie Stone and my father, Chicago Police Officer James A. Alfano, Jr. was killed in the line of duty two months after your dad was. I was searching my dad's name on the computer today and a letter he had written to your mom after your dad's passing came up, as well as a letter you wrote to the Flisk Family. I was so touched after reading both. Just the fact that something my dad wrote in 1970 could have been a comfort to you in some way so many years later really moved me. I called my mom and read her the letter you wrote and she told me how she remembered my dad sitting at his desk writing the letter to your mom (she still has a copy in his handwriting). She also told me that my dad brought my brother John (who was not quite 2 at the time) to your dad's funeral. I was only 6 months old when my dad was so tragically taken from me, my mom Judy and my brother John. We will NEVER forget the ultimate sacrifice both he and your dad gave. I think it is honorable that you followed in your dad's footsteps and I'm sure he is so very proud of you! May God Bless you and your family and keep you safe always.

Late posting but thinking of you and your family last week. Saw your son on the TV news after he and his crew on the Kaner boat did a rescue on the lake a month or so ago. You would be proud of him. Anyone watching the newscast would have been too.

It has been 41 years but time will not allow the CPD to forget your ultimate sacrifice. Please know that we always remember our heroes of which you are one.

I listened to your son and friend, Kurt, give the most powerful speech in rememberance of you and the other officers who have fallen. There is no doubt that your legacy continues. I have to be honest, this is the first time I've visited your memorial and you are an identical image of Kurt. I am proud to have Kurt as a friend and honored to have listened to his message. Continue to watch over Kurt and everyone else who has chosen to protect those who can't protect themselves.

Today I went before the Prisoner Review Board to AGAIN request that your killer stay behind bars. It never gets easier to talk about that night. It seems to actually get harder. It was the first time I was with my wife and son, Kenneth. As you know he is named after you and is a beatiful boy. I will be sure to make him the man you were trying to make of me. Please watch over my wife and son. I love you and miss you everyday.

We had pause to remember the life of Officer Kaner again recently. Officer Alex Valadez from the same district, 007 was killed last week in the early morning hours in Englewood and two things struck us. First, as some police brass was talking at the podium on the TV news, about eight pictures of previoulsy fallen officers in 007 were on the wall behind him. It was as if they were some unwilling welcoming committee. Overlooking his left shoulder at us watching the speaker was the official police picture of Officer Kaner. He was looking out at us intently, as if he knew what was happening and what he and the rest must soon do to prepare for the new member to join them. Another good man would soon take his place on that wall. He with the other good men who served our city and gave too much for it. The second thing that struck me is how little has changed in Englewood since 1970. Still too many angry and useless people still live there.

Once again the individual responsible for your murder is up for parole and once I again I will be writing my letter to the Illinois Parole Board objecting to the release of this individual. Even though your EOW occurred over 38 years ago, I know that your loved ones hold you close in their hearts and have to relive this crime over and over each time this person comes up for parole. You are a true hero and have not been forgotten. Continue to watch over all of your loved ones.
