Reflections for Police Officer Charles Dean Heim

Chuck Heim was one of those Officers that no one could forget. He was always looking for the bad guys and wanted to be there when there was trouble. Chuck came to Hollywood from the Mounted Unit at Metro Division and immediately made friends with everyone. On the night that he was shot he took that extra step and went after a narcotics suspect that was hiding in a motel. Chuck was killed and his partner wounded. The suspect was later killed by SWAT. Chuck gave his life so that the citizens of Los Angeles could be safe, that is his legacy. On October 9, 2015, there will be a memorial service in Hollywood to honor Chuck and the 7 other Officers from Hollywood Division killed in the line of duty. May His name be eternal

All of the sudden Chuck poped into my Head this evening. I always remembered chuck riding around Canyon Country on his horse Chip. Chuck was a great friend and classmate in High school. I can't believe it's been 21 years you left us and went home to be with the lord Rest In Peace Buddy

Chuck, I attended a memorial service at Grace Community church over the weekend. It was the first time I had been back since the day of your funeral. I vividly recalled Jimmy Render, the honors, and the massive motorcade. All of it was greatly deserved. We continue to hope that there are still cops as dedicated and as talented as you. in the ranks!

Dear Chuck, I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have our memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part... XOXOXO May you continue to rest in peace.

Chuck - It's been sometime since we worked Hollywood Division together - and next thing I knew I was renting a room from you in your place in Canyon Country. I think of your often and the fun times we had - Remerber when I sold you my 77 Chevy El Camino. I remember the day I sold it to you, 2 hours later the back was filled with hay stacks. Happy times my friend. I thought of you today as I was teaching at LAPD's Supervisor School and brought your name up in a happy story. Take care my friend and hope things turned out well for your family..

Chuck and I were classmates in the academy and I saw him throughout the years. We eventually worked Hollywood Station together. Chuck always had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face.

Officer Heim,

It is just 15 dsys before the anniversary of your untimely death.

I want your family to know you have not been forgotten!!

I moved to your home town of Canyon Country , Ca about three years ago.

My son attended Sierra Vista Junior High and is now a Canyon Cowboy. My youngest will be at Sierra Vista next year.

Everyday I leave my home I never know if I will come back or what set of circumstances I will end up in. Regardless I will do what it takes to serve the public, that is what we do everyday, we make a difference!!! You fought the good fight YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE!!!

We may have never personally known each other, but you taught me a great deal about the will to fight!!! You had that will to fight and put others before yourself. I will fight just like you did. There is no other job in the world I would even consider doing!!!

Brittani, Your father is a real American HERO AND DESERVES THE HIGHEST HONOR!!! Your father exemplified everything of a true hero!!! I'm sorry about your loss of such a good man and a loving father, but you will always have what he stood for in your heart.

My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you and your family!!!

I knew Chuck from 7th-8th grade at Sierra Vista Junior High School. After many years, I saw him on Hollywood Blvd working the cruising traffic. I then heard of his death one night on the radio which shocked me deeply. He is buried approximately 200 yards from my father in Newhall. I always think of him as I am now an Arizona Highway Patrolman near the Grand Canyon. He will always be in my memories. God bless his family, I know he is looking down on them and still protecting them. Jeff Jaynes.

Chuck -

I was two when you were shot, so I never really got to know you. Still, I think about you almost every day. I still have the lamb you gave me for my second birthday, just 10 days before you were shot. You were the tru definition of a Deputy for the LAPD. It has been 15 years since you have been with us and people still stop by here to leave a message or a comment. That is truly amazing. I can see by the reflections on here already that you touched many lives with your presence. Mom is great. She misses you and Grandpa, but we know that you're together now. Your service means so much to me. I recently joined the USAF and am set to leave after graduation. Its crazy how fast time flies. Thank you for paying the ultimate sacrifice. We are forever grateful...
