Reflections for Police Officer Charles Dean Heim
Chuck, there is so many memories working the Buy Team! Going to the Dodger games, meeting your son who was only about five years old at the time ! You running like a Gazelle as we chased down suspects running through the projects after they sold to our UCs! You changing the carburetor, modifying the manifold and tuning up the green pea so suspect’s couldn’t out run us after selling to our UCs! The time you hoped the train chasing the suspects that were in a stolen black mustang on Blyth Street! I broadcasting that you were heading towards Bakersfield in pursuit of the suspects on the train! You falling off, cracking your ribs and coming to work a few days later! Then one morning you came into the office and told me I had to come for a ride with you to listen to this song by Alabama! Cotton on roadside Cotton in the ditch! Chuck, Brother in Blue! Sorry so long to tell my story about you but in my life it was the hardest thing I had to endure losing you as a friend and partner! Chuck the Western Dance Hall in Lancaster, if your sisters read this? The time you sent the band member head over heals out of his Limo! One more that’ll get you Laughing, the time the suspect ran out of the back of the bar after making a sell to our UCs getting checked and landing in a shopping cart!
Think about all the time Brother, Keven Whelchel LAPD Detective retired!!!

My name is Bill Heim. I retired in 1994 from Detective Headquarters, just a couple months before his death. I met chuck when I noticed his uniform name plate. I joked with him about not embarrassing my legacy or the Heim reputation. When he left I bragged to the other detectives, “ now that is going to be a good cop”. I think about Chuck and his family often and am convinced meeting him that night was no coincidence. My fathers name was Chuck ! RIP Officer Heim!

Today the men and women of Hollywood Division went to the motel of your last call. We reflected on your sacrifice and told the story of your life. In doing so, we passed down your legacy. The legacy of the badge, service to the community, and ultimately putting the community's needs before your own. Our hope is that your family is doing well and our appreciation that they shared such a man with our department.
Know that his brothers and sisters of the LAPD Hollywood Division have not forgotten and never will. RIP.

Me and Charlie still miss you. Charlie grew up to be a man you would be proud of. Hit a few bumps along the way, bumps that would not have been there if you had still been in his life. I am glad that I still see so much of you in him. Charlie has no idea that many of his ways were your ways. I am thankful that Because of Charlie, You are still in our lives everyday. You have been gone so long, so many years... Our son is now older then you were when you were taken from all of us. Wow!!! But I know your up there with our daughter Melissa. Still really miss you.

I cant believe its been 21 years. I was just thinking about the last time we hung out. I was 14 years old.We were eating some Carl's Jr in your truck and I was talking about me wanting to be a firefighter when I'm older. You told me to stay out of trouble, finish high school, and pursue my dream. Im 36 years old and I'm proud to say that I'm a firefighter in southern California. Thank you for inspiring me and making those trips from Diamond Bar to Canyon Country, to simply hang out. Miss you and know youre in a happy place with the rest. Love you uncle Chuck.
