Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Willard Johnston

The tool used was actually a shovel, according to information given to the family at the time he was killed. It was during a riot and escape attempt by several inmates. The inmate who hit him was immediately grieving and tried to comfort him as he died. This was especially traumatic to my mother who was in High School at the time.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the seventy-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I also was a C.O. at San Quentin in the seventies. It's always been a tough job.
Rest In Peace.
