To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 34th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I thank your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Uncle Pig,
I am so happy to have found this site to be able to leave a reflection for you. I miss you so much. I can still picture you in my mind pulling up on your motorcycle in you police uniform grandmom Fannie's drive way has saying "come here girl" and I would run because I was afraid of the you in the police uniform. Of course, I didn't know any better then, I may have been about four years old then. Just want you know that I think about you often. I have seen your picture on beale street in the precinct, on the wall in the precinct on Union as well. You are very well remembered. I well always love you and will never forget you.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

ITS SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER FAR AWAY...
It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.
Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.
They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.
Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.
So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

I never got a chance to meet you, but I was blessed to have met your son. You have two beautiful grand-daughters ages 15 and 2. The more Derrik talks about you, the more I realize that our two year old daughter has a lot of your personality. Dad you'd be very proud of your son, I sure am!!! He's grown up to be a wonderful father.... You will definitely be missed.

Patrolman Jefferson.I remember you as a little girl, you lived a few houses down from my family. I can remember your wife Peggy, because I have a sister named Peggy. I can remember your son Derrick, while I was 5 years old, he was about 2 or 3. The year was 1972. We lived on leach road in Westwood. I can remember you always on that motorcycle. Well may you rest in peace and also know that you touched my life by your honorable career choice and who would have thought that I would have followed.

Earth's loss is heaven's gain... say hello to my Auntie Maude and brother 'Rell who joined your heavenly estate in July and December of 2004....
He
He can turn the tides and
calm the angry sea.
He alone decides who
writes a symphony.
He lights every star that
makes our darkness bright.
He keeps watch all through
each long and lonely night.
He still finds the time to hear
a child's first prayer.
Saint or sinner call and
always find Him there.
Though it makes Him sad
to see the way we live,
He'll always say, "I forgive."
He can grant a wish or
make a dream come true.
He can paint the clouds and
turn the gray to blue.
He alone knows where to find
the rainbow's end.
He alone can see what lies
beyond the bend.
He can touch a tree and turn
the leaves to gold.
He knows every lie that
you and I have told.
Though it makes Him sad
to see the way we live,
He'll always say, "I forgive."

You'll Never Walk Alone
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.
