Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

Detective Hunt,
You are my second cousin, my Grandfather Hale W. Hunt, was your Uncle. I learned about you while doing some genealogy on our family. You passed before I was born but I wish I knew you. This week, I spent a day in Los Angeles and I found your star at the PD and your name on the star at the Memorial. I also drove to find your street sign and I saw your picture on the wall at the PD. I am the Chairperson of a Community Group supporting LEOs. We Back the Blue. I am proud of you and the hard work that our Officers do to keep us safe. I wish I would have known about the dedication ceremony. I would have come. I am making a point to educate my children and others about you and share your story. Rest in Peace.

Clay: I remember you, mostly, at the rodeos in Kingman, AZ when our Aunt Amy hosted family reunions. I was young and impressive and you were bigger than life because you were a Los Angeles Police Department detective. Sorry I wasn't at the dedication of the Memorial, but I will place a rose on the Memorial and the site of the street sign named in your honor. You are forever in my memory.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 54th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

When research was begun, to create a Hollywood Blvd-type 'Walk-of-Fame' complete with stars memorializing all the LAPD Hollywood Officers killed in the line-of-duty, at the front entrance to hollywood Station, you were not known by any of us active-duty employees.

Time has robbed me of his name, but it was your car-partner, the night you were taken from us, who spoke up and made sure you would be remembered. Upon completion of the project a ceremony was held to educate the public, and us, about the men who's names were placed at the doorstep of our station. Members of the surviving family were to be featured prominently when wreaths were placed above the embedded bronze stars. Alas, there was no survivng family for you. Again, your car partner stood in for your family.

You were blessed, indeed, to have him in your life and by your side when you passed over. You, sir, had a true friend in life, and one dedicated to your lasting memory.

Today, your portrait hangs in the lobby and your walk-of-fame star stands at the front door. May you rest in peace.
