Dad, You were an amazing man and it was no surprise to see the thousands that came to say good-bye to you. My only wish is that I had a chance to say it to you before you were gone.

We love you and miss you Daddy... can't wait to see you again in heaven.

Love always,

Your son

I am on the Emergency Response Team that Officer House was on. I did not serve with him, but I hear he was truly one of the best. It saddens me to see what can happen to great people. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family.

While with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, I had the pleasure of training with Steve during an IALEFI (firearms instructors) training week in St. Augustine, Fl. As a training ercise, we were tasked with making a building entry under hostile fire {wax pellets, or other such nonsense:)}. We were having trouble getting into the building due to suppresive sporadic fire from an unidentified source inside the building. Steve formulated a plan. We laid down suppresive fire while he literally vaulted OVER a desk and into a firing position to allow us an opportunity to enter. Was a beautiful thing to watch. I only wish we had videotaped the event.

Steve was a heck of a guy. Very personable, friendly and always willing to help. Although he had a vast amount knowlege, he never boisterous or haughty. He was always willing to listen and learn as well as share his knowlege and experience for the betterment of others.

I regret not having more time to get to know him, but the short time spent at the conference left a lasting impression.

The above story has been retold on numerous occasions in both law enforcement and non-law enforcement circles.

I was truly saddened to hear of Steve's death. That day, the law enforcement community and the community as a whole, lost a true professional, a warrior and a friend.

To those that were closest to him, my sincerest condolences.

God bless you my friend and may you have eternal peace.
