i worked with Mel in the 77 Pct. he was a great guy. always with a great big smile, always there for us. he was a character, constantly chatting about something. if i"m not mistaken he grew up in the 77 Pct. and later ofcourse served there. he trully cared about the community, ultimatly dying there. my son is a police officer in clearwater FL. and my daughter is a N Y P D detective. they have both heard of Mel, Ronnie Stapleton, and Robert Mandel, two other fallen 77 oficers. to those who read this, and for Mel"s family Mel"s sprit lives on.
