Joseph Livingston Hood was the first Sheriff of Bexar County, Texas. Elected on May 1st, 1837. He was re-elected to a second two year term, but gave his life before that term expired. He was stabbed to death with an arrow wielded by a Comanche Indian. He subsequently died a short time later from the mortal wound. His assailant was killed by others, while the Sheriff was struggling to not be further injured. 38 years of age at the time of his death. He has not been forgotten.
