It’s hard to believe that is been 41 years since you and Ray stepped on a rainbow. I often think about the last time I saw you both when I dropped you off at the airport in Sacramento so that you and Ray could fly back to Coalinga. Little did I know that I would be the last person to see you both alive. I pray that you are rejoicing in heaven and that we will cross paths again someday.
God bless you both.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 32nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for solace for all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

May God rest your soul.

I can't beleive how long it has been since you and Ray took that last flight together. It was even harder for be to believe that I was the last one to see you both alive. Little did I know when I dropped you off at the airport in Sacramento and drove your car back to Coalinga, that it would be the last time I saw you both. As a Patrolman and later Sergeant with Coalinga PD, you gave me the opportunity and encouragement to be the person I am today. After 20 years on the job, I left active duty law enforcement and took up the task of training police officers to protect themselves. You were a big part of my career in Coalinga and I'll never forget you and Ray.
God bless you Chief.

People should know that you were the first lady to be selected Police Chief in California's history.
I had the pleasure of hosting Chief Holloway and her husband for a BBQ dinner to return the favor of her obtaining a San Diego SWAT uniform badge patch for me.
In those days San Diego didn't wear shoulder patches. The cloth SWAT badge was the nearest thing to a patch they had and consequently was one of the hardest in the state to obtain. It was special to me as it was the last one I needed to have a complete collection of California's police agencies.
Over dinner Chief announced that they had mixed blessings in that her husband had just been notified he was being promoted to Sergeant. Unfortunately, this meant he would be transferred out of the area. They didn't know what to do because the only way they could stay together would be for either her to resign or him not to take the promotion.
She said, "We are asking God for a solution because we don't want to hurt each other's careers but we don't want to be apart either."
In less than 4 weeks Chief Kay Holloway and her husband, CHP Officer Donald R. Holloway, died together when their small plane crashed coming home from an assignment in Sacramento.
I am thankful they both had such faith in God, for they were blessed with the perfect solution to remain together, in Heaven.
