Reflections for Police Officer Christopher G. Hoban

Chris(aka MUGSY)you were a good friend. That tragic night of your death, I remember it like it was yesterday. I still find myself going by the location everytime I'm in the area. I speak to your mom on a regular basis. I have to tell you what a great woman. You came from good blood. Miss you.

Chris, It seems like only yesterday that we were on the phone that awful Tuesday so many years ago, making plans to hit Peggy Oneal's for our usual nurse night. I cant believe how time moves so fast. The days we spent skiing and hanging out will forever be cherished memories. Although I only knew you for about five years, it felt like a lifelong friendship, and I am lucky to have been your friend. When we meet again my friend, the beers that we didn't get to have back then are on me, so put in a word with the big guy and hold me a seat.

And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the end of the world
But we in it shall be remembered”

I still remember the gentle, good natured soul whose locker was next to mine in the basement of the 26pct, as you prepared for work daily in Narcotics. It was a sickening day in deed when you served your final tour of duty. Thank you for your bravery under fire and the ultimate sacrifice you made to make the streets safer for the rest of us. I know you made a lasting impact on 30000+ co-workers and perhaps an entire city.

His name was Christopher Hoban, to those of us, that worked with him, he was known as "MUGSY". He worked as an Undercover Narcotics officer in one of the toughest times, and places in the NYPD's history..The CRACK Wars in Manhattan North Narco. It has been almost sixteen years Chris, I go by the street, every once in awhile, so much has changed...Your EFFORTS, did not go in vain,You helped to make New York a much better place...All the Best Mugsy...We'll have a Guinness one day

I was assigned to Manhattan North Narc's about 6 weeks after Chris was taken from us and it was a heavy feeling walking into that unit filled with some of the toughest, streetwise cops I'd ever worked with.
I got to know from working in this unit that Chris was good at what he did and always keeping him in mind gave me the strength and courage to preform the U/C assignments I was involved in.
Having met Chris' family and friends I know I would have really enjoyed working with him and it really hits hard when you relize the reality of this dangerous job that we sometimes take lightly.
Det. Cecil "Arty" Waithe describes Chris' assignment and ultimate sacrifice as only a true street cop who's been there can.
Chris will never be forgotten.

Stay safe all my Brother and Sister's in Blue.

RIP Chris

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, October 18, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of P.O. Christopher Hoban who died on this date 15 years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Hoban's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Officer Hoban, was a Narcotics UnderCover. The most dangerous job in the NYPD. His bravery is unparalleled. What he has accomplished and was attempting to accomplish will never be forgotten! Officer Hoban was an unconventional warrior in the vein of Vietnam Tunnel Rats, Navy Seals,Army Delta Operators who have made the ultimate sacrifice for humanity.
