WOW Tony, I cant believe it has been 23 years since you left us. I still think about you bro , think about your kids, praying they are doing great. I think about your wife, and what a horrific blow she took from life the day you died. I hope she is well. I hope she was able to move on with her life from this. She was so young. We were all so young back then. Most of us have retired now. There is no more Brooklyn South Task Force. The buildings still there, just some other cops under a new command. Your plaque is still on the wall there, as far as I know. I hope the cops who work there now will ask questions, or try to find out who you are, how you died. I hope someone doesn't say "OH, he was killed in a RMP accident". It was so much more than that. You guys were going to a 85,78pct anti crime in foot pursuit after robbery suspect. You guys answered the call, as we all would have. Just as the 78 pct.car that you collided with was answering the call.Bro,you are the first HERO I have ever known in real life. Thanks for being a cool guy. Thanks for the jokes. Thanks for being a good guy.WOW,23 years.A whole lifetime has passed since you left.I will always think about you from time to time. Until the day I die. And we will hang out again, play darts, and crack jokes.well Bro,until then, still thinking about ya.

Rest well my brother. Sad to say that in order to help another we gotta get there safe. May we always be careful in our response, and never forget your unselfish act to come to the aid of another in need.

It was my honor to research newspapers, magazines, online & books to find your ID CARD Photo. I found this photo in a 1994 New Times Article about your heroic sacrifice. I felt it was necessary to have a photo on this website so that your family & friends can remember you. Rest Easy Hero! Always Remembered!

Samanta,

I was the officer that came to your home that night and sat with you and your sister. I pray for your family every day. I hope that you have found peace in your Dad's passing. Know your dad loved you all and spoke of you often. I wish you all the best and know you are always thought of.

My name is Travis Rodgers, I am the person who was beaten and robbed by six young men on Tuesday night, April 26, 1994. Officer Jose Perez lost his life that night while trying to help his fellow officers, and he lost his life trying to help me and others.

Its been almost 20 years since that terrible night, but I have never forgotten Officer Jose Perez. I did not know him, and I never met him, but I will always honor his memory.

May his family, loved-ones, and friends take comfort and pride in knowing that he was a genuine hero, a brave and honorable man. May God grant him eternal rest, peace, and joy in His Holy presence.

Your heroism and service is honored today on the 18th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.
My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jose was responding to a call of shots fired in Prospect Park and while he was responding to the scene he collided with another police vehicle enroute to the scene. Jose was a class guy and will never be forgotten
