Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Nelson I. Hess, V

During my 32+ years at the du Pont plant I worked with Officer Nick's father, his brother and with him at various times. When we were in on the development of the "Qiana"® yarn, I worked directly with Nick and I knew that he had worked with the Sheriff's Department at times, but didn't know until later that he had become a member of the Chattanooga Police Department. It shocked and saddened me to learn of the unfortunate incident that took the life of Nick and his fellow officer David Friederichsen. I live just over the hill from that place where they gave their all in the line of duty. I pass the location frequently and feel that I have to give a 'salute' to them for their conscientious performance as a police officer. So, another 'salute' to you, Nick and David, and to all the police officers who are willing to put yourself in jeopardy for the benefit of the citizens. God Bless you all! Sincerely, Joseph V' Tipton

Rest in peace. We have the watch now.

Inv. Michael Walker
Tallahassee Police Department

They still play the tape from your shooting in the academy. I never knew you, yet somehow I feel a connection. I guess it's because your Mom and Dad's church hosts "Law Enforcement Appreciation Sunday" every year. The church ladies cook us breakfast and everything. I get a very strong sense that you are watching us from Heaven. I bet you think it's cool that 25 years after your death, you're still here, teaching in the academy! Guys who weren't even born when you were here still know who you are.

Rex is long gone, I hope he's with you. It seems only right that he would be.

Rest well, Brother. We've got the beat covered.

Hey brother
The other night I was on patrol and gave your brother a ride home. It was'nt until later that he told me he was your brother. I feel that it was just a sign from above that you are still looking down on your brothers in blue. You paid the ultimate price long before my time here on earth and my time as a police officer. You will never be forgotten by your brothers and sisters in blue. We love you and thank you for watching out for us out there. Give my dad a big hug for me...you guys rest easy now

God bless you my brother. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten by your brothers and sisters in blue.
