Reflections for Patrolman Wayne Grant Henebry
I was a young Asst. D. A. at the time of this event. I knew both officers pretty well, having worked with them on cases. I was shocked to learn what had happened and couldn’t hardly believe it. I went to where Polk, the perpetrator, was killed first. I saw that his lifeless body was pinned up against a wall or a fence by a car driven by his son who was protecting his mother. I then went to the morgue. Both officers bodies were already there. No one else was in the morgue at that time. I pulled out each cabinet and had a quiet moment with each friend. That was what it took for me to accept the tragedy that night. Every time there is a memorial service for fallen officers, I remember these two heroes.

Dear brother in blue,
I was taken to the funerals for you and Patterson when I was only 1 month in law enforcement. Having been a son to a firefighter, I have been to a few funerals for firefighters as a youngster. I truly didn't appreciate the sacrifice made at such an early age. But after attending the services for you and Patterson, it all landed upon me quite heavily. I can remember a couple officers passing out in formation. BUT I will NEVER forget the sound of taps being played or the 21 gun salute. I have carried these memories and the feelings from that day with me every time that I have strapped the belt and badge on. Prayers for you and your family. Forever BLUE, forever TRUE. Thank you for your service.

wow, 26 years. I look like more like his dad now than his brother. But the morning will come when he greets me in the clouds and it will be as it was. Friends and brothers forever. Miss him every day until..

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 23rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Wayne loved music, every time I hear a new song or of a new group I think to call him. Oh, well.. I miss my brother.

My brother, Wayne, will be remembered so long as I live. He was a good friend and I miss him still. His death was wrong but was an honorable one. He died serving his community and trying to protect the innocent from evil. God bless his soul, I'll see him again in the sweet by and by.

He was my best friend, my brother not only by blood but also in spirit and blue. 19 years have past but sometimes it feels like but a moment ago he was taken. I still miss him and long for the day I see Wayne and Dad again.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
