Reflections for Constable John Wesley Harryman
You were the beloved brother of my grandfather, George Harryman. I found letters he had written to you while he was in France recovering from WWI warfare. You joined him just 4 years after he passed and are buried near him. How I would have loved to know both of you.
The citizens you protected have not forgotten you. I get contacted every so often asking me about that horrible day. Your family was devastated by your loss. If you had lost your life due to a "common criminal", the devastation would have been the same.
Rest in Peace, dear uncle. Your wife and children have joined you. The future generations will keep your memory alive.

Wes Harryman was my Great-Grandmother's brother. One time Great-Grandma Atha spoke to me about what happened to Uncle Wes, I remember looking at her face seeing tears in her eyes. It was very painful for her. I have a picture of him with my grandma and their father and siblings, she was about 18 in that picture.

I recently watched “The Highwaymen” which is the story of the hunt for and the eventual justice brought to Bonnie and Clyde. This film, in my humble opinion, unlike the previous movies, acknowledges and shows respect for the Law Enforcement Officers who lost their lives to these animals and does not show them to be any kind of folk hero. It was long overdue.
Though the name of each and every Officer is not mentioned, some are and I believe the sacrifice by all is honored.
God Bless you, Constable Harryman, and may your eternal rest remain ever peaceful, Brother.

It was a very sad day in the history of our country when Wes Harryman and Harry McGinnis were needlessly blown away. They had no idea in terms of what they were getting themselves into. My heart goes out to their families and to law enforcement personnel across this great country. Thank you.

My mother Sarah Ellen Harryman Denison is the youngest daughter of John Harryman. My grandmother Atha Ellen was left with 5 young children to raise. My mother was only 3 years old at the time her father was murdered but does have memories of him holding her on his lap. She was cheated, along with the rest of the family, of the joy of having her loving father watch her grow up.

Growing up I was told the story by my Grandmother Eva of your bravery and horrific loss at such a young age. A few years ago I made it to Saginaw to visit. Our family is small, but I'm glad to be part of a real hero, yours!
I'll never forget you.

It is so sad that the Bonnie and Clyde Gang are so well known. As a society we glorify the criminals and either ignore Hero’s like you or make the Hero’s appear like the criminals. It is very sad that the names of Bonnie and Clyde are known even to our children, when it is your name Constable John Harryman that should be known. You are a hero and a man to be looked up to. May you rest in peace and thank you and your family for the ultimate sacrifice. WE are a better people today because you walked among us yesterday. God Bless

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 79th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. It is sad that our film industry made Bonnie and Clyde folk heroes instead of the murderous criminals they were and omitted any true picture of the heroic man you were.
Rest In Peace.

I didn't know until recently, but I know your youngest daughter, Sarah. She is so incredibly proud of you and it is so very sad that you were taken from her at such a young age. She has grown up to raise a beautiful family of her own and I know you watch over them daily. God bless you for your sacrifice. You are loved and missed by many. My father also was killed in the line of duty 5/15/1982. You have not been forgotten.

What an incredible history you have and what a sad ending that so many officers lost their lives to such scum.
You are a true hero, today you were remembered as you will continue to be and as it should be for all of the peacekeepers who give their lives protecting us.
Thank you sir.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.
Marshal Batterson, you were a true hero. You will always be remembered.
These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
