Happy Birthday Daddy!!! I miss u so much!! Things are okay--its a pretty stressful time right now. trying to get Abby diagnosed correctly. Wish u were here, you would really be proud of your grandkids--they are all adorable and such good kids!! I am trying to help mom with your grave and cross, its just so hard going there!! "The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Hey... Thanksgiving is just around the corner..... the holidays are here again... miss you so this time of the year ... maybe one day I won't miss you so much.. people ask me some of the silliest things.. have I forgotten what you look like.. it gets easier with time , doesn't it... no it doesn't you just learn how to hide it better... all the grandbabies are doing good.. Abby is doing better in school this year.. Caleb looks just like you.. that is Amanda's baby.. he is eight now.. such a good athlete.. wish you were here to see them.. sometimes that is the hardest part of all this.... well .. need to get to bed.. Hello.. Sweetie.. the time is coming up again and I am trying my best to get through it ... I miss you so very much... the daycare is doing great.. will probably open the second one sometime this summmer...Jerry is in the hospital and not doing too good... brain is gone.. so sad.. but nothing I can do about it... this will be the 13th anniversay without you... we would have been married 34 years... where has the time gone... grandbabies all doing good.. little Trenton is a delight.. You would not even know Cody... I remember your delight with him.. almost grown now.... the girls all three play softball.. and Caleb is so talented in that department... he loves his baseball.. Another holiday behind me... I do try to get into the spirit of things... sometimes just easier to stay by myself... think of eveyday just like always..Ralph is doing o.k... All the babies are getting big.. Trenton Lee is 2 now.. last year a bad memory... so sick ..but to look at him now... Maybe one day the pain will go away..the missing you .. and remembering you... I won't get to be there for you this time... have to work... You should see that baby.. I call him Sumo.. blond and brown eyed... hope this does it .. his ears have been awful.. sometimes these doctors... don't trust them after what they did to Mom... Well.... Today is Amy's birthday.. 29 years ago today was a Friday and beautiful... I remember that day as plain as if it was just yesterday... today also, ten years ago I laid my Mama to rest beside you.. Daddy followed not too long after that.. I make one trip and get to see you all... Even though it has been this many years ... somedays are really hard still.. I do try and keep things together but it gets harder as each day passes.. Adam is grown now and you should see Cody.. a blond version of Adam and his Mama.. Our anniversary is coming up .. another hard day to get through... I miss you as much today as I did twelve years ago.. most people think it gets easier.. it doesn't.. just a lot of pretending...
