Dad! I cannot wait to meet you in Heaven! Being that I was 20 months young when you were horrifically taken from our family, I do not have memories of you. I have heard tons of stories, seen lots of pictures, and have been told that I act just like you! I literally cannot wait to feel what it is like to have a hug from my handsome father! Thank You for your service, for protecting your community, and for loving what you did. You died in your “element”. You were highly thought of by your fellow brothers and sisters in blue! That brings such joy to my heart! You have a son-in-love named Shannon that wishes he knew you. He even has your badge tattooed over his heart.....he loves you and honors you! You have 3 amazing and beautiful grandchildren. Jace is almost 16. Gage is almost 13. And Lace is 4. You would have been the most incredible Grand-daddy to walk the face of the earth! Those 3 grand babies know you. They hear of you all of the time. You are very much present in our lives, even though it is not physical. I pray daily that I can be the wife and mom that God wants me to be, and that I make you proud! You will always be my Angel until I get to fall into your arms in Heaven! I love you most! ~Megan~

I remember our times at Carswell AFB as members of the 7th Security Police Squadron. I still think about those great days you and I had policing the streets of Carswell as Law Enforcement Specialist. Your memory will be forever planted in my heart, but you and I both talked about the sacrifice of life when you joined the Houston PD, and I went Arlington PD. Officer James D. Harris was my Uncle by marriage. His father Nelson Harris was married to my maternal grandmother Ruth S. Harris. We spoke of your Murder Trial as a family in Auburn, New York. I believe I was in middle school when you were murdered. We had pictures of the murder trial and even after the passing of your father, we as a family discussed the car accident that your supposed murderer died in when he was released from death row. RIP James Harris.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 31rsy anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Jim, I remember those days at Carswell AFB, TX in 1974-1975, when you were in Security Police Investigations with TSgt Joe Wages, and I was newly assigned Special Agent to the AF Office of Special Investigations. We worked a few cases together. We left active duty around the same time; you went to Houston PD while I went to Dallas PD. I was there at your funeral in July 1982 as a representative of our department. Rest in peace my friend.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
