I graduated from High School with Eddie. As all of the other classmates I had I remember him well. We came from a close knit community and everyone at the school knew and liked each other. 1969.

Eddie and I were in the same Electricity Class in high school however he was a senior and I was a freshnan. In March of 1975 he stopped me for speeding in Hardin County when I was going 100 mph on the Kentucky Turnpike where I was employed. He didn't take me to jail but only gave me a speeding ticket. I had just turned in my application to be a trooper two weeks earlier. I asked if this was going to hurt my chances and he told me about the board he had to go infront of for all of his speeding and reckless driving tickets he got. Long story short I made it in Sept. 1977 and I helped in the man hunt for his shooter. I retired from K.S.P. in 2004 but I think of Eddie ofter and how he gave his live to make Kentucky a better place. May God bless all police officers and their families.

Sir I remember that day and after seeing your kids so upset it made me so sad. I was one of the "blonde" kids in the neighborhood. After you death I made my mom move to where my dad was stationed because I didn't want to be upset anymore. I was 6 years old at the time. Now that I am a lot older I want to thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. I am honored to be a fellow "brother in blue". God bless to you and your family.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 31rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Eddie I remember Mom and Dad bringing me over to your house to play like it was yesterday. I love hearing all the stories, and I think about you, Lt. Martin, Sgt. Coffey, and Trooper Pickard each time I come 10-8. E-town was rough in the 1970's and you paid the ultimate price. Rest in Peace Trooper

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Although I did not know you, I read the circumstances of your line-of-duty death and felt compelled to write a reflection. You died on my 19th birthday. Thank you for your service to the state of Kentucky and the citizens there, and thank you for your courage!

It's been so long my friend. I remember like it was yesterday you stopped by the dispatch at E-town PD to get some of my coffee. We talked as usual, about what I don't remember. Not long after you left, I heard them call you on the scanner, but there was no reply. You did not answer us, because you had already answered the angels.I still remember you, and I'll see you in heaven.

It is said that EVIL flourishes when good men do nothing.

To the family of this brave officer who gave all so that others might live, I extend my deepest sympathy and gratitude for your continued sacrifice.

To those of us who were left behind who still wear the badge, the mission continues... tomorrow is another Tour Of Duty... May God comfort you with the knowledge that you DO make a differance.
