Reflections for Police Officer Clarence Wayne Dean

i'm not sure if i've ever met you before. my mom (rebecca smith) was friends with you and had painted a potrait and had it hung in the simi valley p.d. there was an accident late friday night on I-5 and i thought of you and read up on the net articles about you. everytime i go through that interchange, i look at that sign and think about it and how greatful i am that you tried to help. i drive and tell whoever i'm driving with and tell them that my mom helped get that area to be your interchance. i only wish i spent enough time to remember you. i bet i was so young when i met you. rest in peace sir.

Brother Dean,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue

Ofcr Dean, I clearly remember that Monday morning when you passed. Among all the havok in the San Fernando Valley that day, I was struck by the realization that while I was so absorbed with my own problems brought on by the earthquake, you --- and others like you --- were busy suiting up and reporting for duty to help all of the rest of the self-absorbed citizens of Los Angeles. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice for people you didn't even know. You are in my thoughts, and your family is in my prayers.

Ofcr. Dean -

I was shaken awake, like the rest of L.A. County, by the earthquake. As time went on I caught the news and saw your bike crashed at the I5/SR14 interchange that now bears your name. You were fully covered by a sheet, but the bike told me we'd lost one of our own. Sleep well, brother.
