To Patricia Berni and others who may need to contact the family of Officer Charles Hallenbeck

I am the daughter of Charles Hallenbeck and unfortunately, had not seen this posting. The good news is that the LAPD has been in contact with my mother, Patricia Hallenbeck-Bowley and will be accepting this beautiful, heartfelt award on behalf of my father. My brothers, Charles (Rick), Jeff, and myself, along with our family members will also be in attendance.

Please know that you should contact my mother, my brothers, or myself for any future ceremonies or tributes to our father as this is very personal to our family.

To Detective III Julie Scruggs and other law enforcement individuals on this page who took the time to acknowledge our father, thank you so much for your kind words. Your words truly mean a lot to our family.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 48th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

WORKED 77TH DETS AUTO THEFT. WAS CONTACTED BY ACCIDENT FOLLOWUP UNIT (SGT.KELLY) WHO WAS CLASSMATE OF MINE HE SAID HE WAS HANDLING THE INVESTIGATION AND OTHER THAN A PARTIAL PRINT OBTAINED FROM THE SUSPECT VEHICLE THEY HAD EXHAUSTED CURRENT LEADS. AFTER REVIEW OF ALL ELEMENTS OF HIS INVESTIGATION I CONCLUDED THAT HE HAD DONE ALL HIS HOMEWORK IN THE MATTER AND THAT I WOULD KEEP THE INFORMATION IN MIND WHILE "PROFILEING" SUBJECTS PASSING MY REVIEW WHILE WORKING AUTO THEFT CASES. SOME TIME LATER MY PARTNER WALLY CLUBERTON (NOW DECEASED) WERE ASSIGNED THE INVESTIGATION OF TWO ARRESTEES FOR GRAND THEFT AUTO. WE CONDUCTED INTERVIEWS OF THE ARRESTEES AND I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE SELF CONFIDENT AND NON CARING ATTITUDE OF THE SUBJECTS, OUR CURRENT CASE WAS COMPLETE FOR FILING WITH THE EVIDENCE ON HAND AND THE ARRESTEE'S ATTITUDE PROMPTED ME TO CALL TRAFFIC FOLLOW UP FOR A FINGERPRINT CHECKUP AGAINST THEIR PARTIAL IN THE HALLENBECK FATALITY. WALLY AND I WENT TO LUNCH. WHEN WE RETURNED WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE PRINT WAS A MATCHAND OUR ROUTINE AUTO THEFT CASE WAS PRE-EMPTED BY TRAFFIC FOLLOW UP. I NEVER HEARD THE OUTCOME BUT AM CONTENT IN KNOWING I HAD SOME SMALL PART IN BRINGING THIS UNFORTUNATE MATTER TO CLOSURE
