Reflections for Deputy Darryn Leroy Robins
Hey buddy, Merry Christmas !!! Man, how time and these past 31 years have flown by. Almost all of our station 18 brothers we worked with are either retired and/or some have joined you in heaven !! I'm sure you all are taking care of business up there and are enjoying eternal life with our dear Lord and Saviour. I miss you Darryn and it still hurts. We sure had some good times and those I'll never forget. I cherished and miss our friendship. We will NEVER forget !!! Love 'ya bro...

I randomly woke in the middle of the night. You popped up in my head, Uncle Darryn, so I googled you. It's that time of year again. I broke into tears. I miss you so much. Christmas will never be and has never been the same since.
Never could I imagine that Christmas Eve would be the last time I'd ever see again....sigh. We had a blast with you; on Christmas Eve, you took me and my younger sister and brother to Catalina Island. You teased us that we needed barf bags because of how choppy the ferry ride was to the island. We played at the beach, ate, and laughed at everything. It still hurts the same that you're gone. Time heals nothing. I was 15 the day it happened, and I remember returning to my Grandmother's house. Police cars were there. What happened next..they said you were shot. I remember asking how, why, what happened. Everyone was so grief-stricken I figured my questions would be later answered. It wasn't until I was much older that I read the details of how you were taken from us—the "car drills" impromptu training exercise in an empty parking lot. Your "partner" pointed a loaded at with the safety off. And somehow, you were shot in the face. That was a B.S. story, in my opinion. Your life was taken but not your memory. To this day, I still laugh about the time you made a Freddy Kreuger glove and tapped me on my shoulder. I flipped out and almost ran into the wall. You always had jokes. You were my favorite person. RIP, Uncle Darryn; you'll forever be missed. #SayHisName".

Darryn your death was such a horrible accident that shattered so many lives. I know John missed for the rest of his life, we talked about you periodically and had many happy conversations about memories he had about things he remembered. Then I would share my memories from the jail working with you. I’m sure you guys had a great reunion in heaven. Until we meet again my friend.

28 years my loyal, dear friend and we will never ever forget your sacrifice. So much has changed in the world buddy, you couldn't even imagine. The pain is still real. You Station 18 guys gained another angel up there when my dearly beloved brother-in-law, Mitch Hopp (class 69), joined your ranks on December 15th. I'm sure you're all welcoming him home and with open arms. Continue to rest in eternal peace buddy. I love ya and miss you a whole lot. We all do !!!!!!

26 years buddy. We still love 'ya, still miss 'ya and still think about 'ya. That was a very nice post that your dear friend, Mr. Griffin, left. I'm glad to hear that Melissa is well and that you are now a Grandpa to a beautiful Grandson that looks and acts like you. Boy, what I wouldn't do to see them right now. I looked up Morris Day and the Time on YouTube and got a good laugh and it made my heart smile. So much has changed Darryn but 1 things remains the same....you will never be forgotten my friend !!! Merry Christmas and may you continue to rest in eternal peace.

Darryn (Bean) Robins! My friend, it's been nearly 26 years, and it took me 7 of those to finally let go. For years, I had reoccurring dreams that you were still here. Never would I have imagined you'd be gone in the prime of your life. I'll never forget what a newly proud father you were, when Melissa was born. She was the light of your life. Now you're a Grand Father, with Melissa having given birth to a baby boy, a couple of years ago. Forest and I went by your mom's (Sade Mae) house to see him, and I guess it was no surprise that he looked just like his grandpa. He had some of your mannerisms too. Unfortunately, Forest passed not long after that visit, and the last time I saw Sadie Mae, was at his funeral. That was over a year ago. My, my, my, how the time flies. But I'll never forget all the great times we had growing up. Sometimes I just sit and play the records that remind me of you. Especially Morris Day and The Time, and it just brings a smile to my face, even right now thinking about it. You'll never be forgotten my friend! RIP

As we approach another Christmas, I am again reminded of the tragic training exercise that took your life, my friend. I've kept in touch with "Sade Mae", who's in turn, kept me abreast of things, as they relate to your wife and daughter. All these many years have gone by, but obviously I will never forget the call your wife made to me on that fateful Christmas day. Our lives were changed forever. It took many years to come to grips with this tragedy, and some of the details still resonate. But I trust in my lord and savior and may his "will", (not mine), be done. God bless you my brother, and may you continue to shine your light down on us.

Well buddy, today makes 20 years ago you were taken from us on that tragic and fateful Christmas day. Back then were in the prime of our lives and careers, having fun and taking the bad guys to jail. Now, some of us are looking at retirement and our twilight years. And I sure wish you had been here with us, living through it all.
We have not forgotten you Darryn and your family continues to be in my thoughts and prayers. Look forward to being with you again in heaven someday, my friend.
I still miss you....Thank you for your sacrifice brother.
