To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 89th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Phyllis Lasater Loya
mom of fallen Pittsburg (CA) officer Larry Lasater

Joy is correct - this is Rupert Lawrence Haines - born November 5, 1867, son of Joseph & Ellenor Caffee Haines.

His sister, Mary Mabel Haines Staats, was my great-grandmother. I don't know the circumstances of his death, other than my mother recalls hearing the story that he was shot by a rustler or a thief.

Thank you, ODMP, for keeping his memory alive.

I think this is Rupert Lawrence Haines the son of Joseph Ansol Haines and Elenor Chaffee.
born Nov 5, 1867 Eckley Oregon.

His mother's will in 1913 (states he is 44) and his father's will in 1916 (states he is 48)both mention he is living in Burns, Harney Co Oregon.

I notice he is in the 1910 Census in Burns City Harney Or listed as Rupert L Haynes, single, 42 and a City Marshall.

But in 1920 he is listed in Malheur , Arcadia Ore as a laborer in a sheep camp age 50 divorced.

I have not found him in the 1900 census.

I hope he is resting in peace and wanted others to at least know who he was even if we don't know what happened, who he married and divorced, and where he got buried.
