Rest in peace Uncle Virgil. You will never be forgotten by your family or your law enforcement family. At a young age I knew I wanted to be a police officer. My grandpa (your nephew) would tell me what happened to you every year on the anniversary of the shooting. He reminded me that it was a dangerous family business but the reward of knowing that you could make a difference in your community and help people out weighed the risks. I will always remember you and I will tell my son about you when he is older. We have the watch from here.

Uncle Virgil was one the most generous and kind men ever. His wife, Aunt Ruth, was not only generous but a woman of incredible wisdom and strength. Very proud of them both. And, I cherish memories of days past.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 62nd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I never would have thought that such tragedy could happen in a little county like Ben-Hill. Well, I say little, but to be honest I have no idea what size it is...I had never even heard of it until I started passing by it on my way to college. These 2 officers were murdered long before I was even born...but their deaths sadden me just the same. God Bless them for their dedication and the service they provided to their county.
