I was a young officer on Bo's squad, #31 at Hyattsville station, when he was killed. I was off on sick leave the evening he was shot. My recollection is that Bo was working the beat where I was usually assigned.

Although I didn't know him well, I recall that Bo was a v. good cop, that he was good to work with, and easy to be around. The thing that distinguished Bo was that he had informants and c.i.'s, something unusual for a uniformed officer.

Bo was a good man; it was a loss when he went.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 39th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Your memory will always be honored and revered for time never diminishes respect. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I hold your family in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your faimly and friends for shariing their memories of you in their reflections.

Well Bo, I will never forget the first time we met. You were
jumping my back fence in chase of an AWOL Soldier in 1968.

A few days later you came by and we then became friends. We
saw each other for 31/2 yrs. I remember one night we were out to dinner with your parents and every time your Mom said Carroll, You, your Father and myself all answered at the same time.

Bo, Although we never met, I had the honor of being being selected as one of your honor guard at your viewing. I was on watch when your mother and father arrived to see you for the first time after your death.

I will never forget that day or seeing the grief and pain in your parents eyes. I prayed for you then and I pray for you now.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

You were the one that was always there willing to lend a hand, it wasn't even your call, you volunteered to back up another officer as you always did. I was there when they handed your lifeless body over the fence in the back yard. I think about that night often but not as often as before and the address and memeories flow causing me sadness again and again. You will always be remembered by those of us that worked with you.

My grand mother first told me about your death last year. She lives down in Florida by your brother, my uncle Patrick. I was only 1 yrs old when you were murdered and you probably only saw me 1 or 2 times. My mother told me she watched everyones children during your funeral. She also told me that they closed down RT 1 from College Park to Laurel and that there were officers from all over the country there lining the road to the cemetary.
My mom also told me a little about how you were murdered responding to the Burglary call. How you were Shot in the side with a gun and you died alone in the backyard. She said the police couldn't come get you because there were hostages and the gunman had used them to lure you in.
I am in the process now of trying to get newspaper articles so I can post a true account of what happened to you. You are not alone anymore and your memory has not been forgotten by our family.
