I am stirred by the recent national focus regarding police officers. Like so many, I was raised to respect and genuinely look up to police officers. So was Bob, who grew up in the same kind of respectful community, and that is why he wanted to become one. I am still deeply saddened to know he was unable to fulfill his extraordinary potential to serve an honorable career protecting his fellow citizens. Men with Bob's integrity are rare, and I am confident his commitment and professionalism would have been unmatched on your police force. He was a very good man, a loyal and caring friend, and he remains in my thoughts and prayers. I hope to someday journey way Back East to visit this wonderful memorial in Berwick, ME to pay tribute in person. I relay my sincere respect and appreciation to all the officers who serve there, and across the country. God Bless You All!

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 31rst anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections

Bob,
I was in "runner's mode" while out training this afternoon and my mind wandered to you. I can't believe you've been gone this long. You never should of been working the night we lost you and I'm still pissed at the scumbag town manager that forced his officers to work on the weekends while going to the academy.
Take care brother and thanks for keeping a watch on the rest of us.

I knew Bob for 8 years and was and considered myself close friend to "Peanut." We ran track and cross-country together, as Bob was an avid runner. I was just thinking about him this week and wanted to pass along my impressions of this honorable man. He was an honest, hardworking guy who simply wanted to make a difference in his life. Few friends nowadays are as supportive and consistently there for you like Bob was. He always had a smile and a joke to tell, and was well-liked by everyone who knew him--though deep down, a very serious person. He displayed courage in many ways as he dealt with his share of challenges and tribulations when he was younger, but always overcame. A rare kind of person, Bob was a man of high integrity and honor whose heroic act is not surprising to those who really knew him. I miss him and his joyful demeanor and my prayers and thoughts are with his Mom, Pat, and his Police Officer Family. God Bless You All for your service and dedication. I know Bob is watching over all of you everyday.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I had the honor of being this young man's Chief during the final weeks of his life. The Berwick Police Department and law enforcement as a whole lost a great assest when we lost "Peanut". He was destined to rise to great heights in law enforcement before a druck driver took him from us. His badge number "4" was retired and to this day is proudly displayed on the department patch. I'm sure Bobby still looks down and watches over us all as he always did.
