Reflections for Detective Alton Fritcher

I thought of you again today, remembering again memories that make me smile. You were a talented man, building the Geodesic Dome up north. It was what you wanted, and you worked hard at it, and did it! I remember you proudly showing me the last board you put in, in the ceiling panel by the window..."Last d@^n one." Love you. Always.

You come into my mind and stay with me as I move through each day. That last day, 55 years ago, is like yesterday. You showed me more care and love then anyone else when I needed it. I appreciate you, I love you, every day. Thank you.
Marty recorded a song that always reminds me of you, and good tomes, "Some Memories Just Won't Die." Love you, Miss you. Linda

Another year gone. And you are still on my mind. I wish I had taken more time to be around you, to learn from you.
I remember you and Wes playing guitars in the back yard while burgers were cooking. We were singing Marty Robbins' songs like El Paso. I loved it, it was such a good time.
You were taken cruelly, so fast. I appreciate you now more than ever. Everything you said that last day has meaning. It's sad, I wish I had told you then. Thank you, I love you.

Thank you Capt Robert D. Clark for remembering, for your Reflection.
Fifty years have passed yet I still remember that night. Two policemen picked me up at work telling me my Mother was being taken to the hospital because Al had been shot in the line of duty, and was in surgery. Only a short while later I was next to him as he left this life.
I still remember earlier that night when I last spoke to Al as he dropped me off at work, and told me that I would be fine, to follow my heart. Never having known my own Dad, I grasped at what he gave me, and I have brought it through life.
How you knew that night, I will always wonder. I continue to be grateful for your kindness, and understanding. You are remembered, and loved.

Detective Fritcher was the night Desk Detective and was only out of the Station on lunch break. He responded like the Hero he was and was mercesily cut down by one of three cowards. The coward who shot Alton ran to a house next door and murdered the home owner in front of his wife and children. We arrested the coward hiding under a car in the driveway. The gutless bastard had crapped in his pants and broken the trigger on his gun. The Officers gave blood donations in an effort to save Alton but it was not to be and he passed away the following day. God Bless Alton Fritchers Soul.

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.
I still have the candle holder you carved as we shared thoughts about living. You were a carpenter at heart, I loved watching you make beautiful things out of wood. All the years that have passed, yet I still remember January 4th, 1969, the night I last spoke to you as you dropped me off at work, and you told me to follow my heart. I am grateful you made a difference in my life.

I was only 6yrs old when this tragedy happened. My dad, Officer Thomas W Johnson was Al Fritcher's partner that night. I remember my dad was grazed by a bullet in the thumb, after hearing gunshots and his partner being shot. My dad was extremely shaken up by the death of his partner, as was the entire Flint police department. I don't know why my dad was spared, but I'm thankful that he was. He retired from the force in 1983 and is now 80 yrs old ... his health is getting frail and his memory isn't so good these days, but he remembers Al and that tragic night. My prayers are with the family of Al Fritcher and my gratitude for his service to the city of Flint MI.

I was 2 yrs old when that horrible day happened. I never had the privilege to know him and make wonderful memories as so many others have reflected on. I remember hearing of him throughout my childhood. Unfortunately, I never knew my grandfather Elwyn either as he had passed before I was born. Not really knowing very much about anybody on that side of my family (for some reason or another as well), I don't have much to reflect on. However, reading many of the posts, I know I would have really liked Alton. Growing up in Flint, MI wasn't always the easiest of days, (it was a hard-nosed city with a lot of attitude), knowing that he was a brave man and recognized for his heroism gives me a little more sense of pride knowing I was related to him, especially now knowing that he had served in the US ARMY during WWII. I never knew that until reading his story,...Also serving in the US ARMY myself during Desert Storm,...I feel a stronger sense of pride and honor knowing we had ranked within the same branch,…Hooah! I would love to know more about him and his time in the military,...there's many questions I would love the opportunity to ask, I can be reached on face book at:

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Uncle Alton was my fathers' brother. My father was Elwyn (they called him AL. I have one brother, Gary. I remember when Uncle Alton was killed. It was a terrible thing, and he wasn't even on duty at the time. It was also very upsetting to me and one of my good friends at the time, because it turned out to be her cousin who had escaped from prison, that shot Uncle Alton. A sad, sad day.
I have not known my dad's side of the family, because he and my mother divorced when I was 7 or 8 yrs old. I would like it very much if someone from my dad's relatives would contact me and I would very much like to get to know some of that side of the family. Carole Fritcher-Watson

I really wish that I had a chance to get to know you. I remember walking with my Dad into the funeral home and holding my Dad hand as we walked down to the casket where you were. I remember looking in the casket at you and because you and my Dad looked so much alike I thought it was my Dad in the casket. I am very proud of the work you did here, thank you very much, your a good man. say Hi to my Dad for me.
