Reflections for Police Officer Connie Smith Hawkins
I still miss you as I was the first to see you pass. I still have nightmares as my daughter is doing as we did. Please always know. You will be missed and not one day of my life goes by without thinking about you. And now as my daughter is following the family footsteps.
I'm sorry we lost you but please in your power now keep us safe

She had an influence in many kids. I am serious. She was a Karate instructor locally. She had a very calm, supportive demeanor. She was a hero of my childhood. I will forever hold her name in my heart.

I was in law enforcement for 35 yrs(over 1/2 my life) in various aspects. As an armed security guard in 69th St Terminal over a yr, as a Police Officer with the Del. Co. Park Police for over 5 yrs, as a Death Investigator with the Del. Co. Medical Examiner for over 17 yrs., and as a Deputy with the Del. Co. Sheriff's Office for 10 1/2 yes.
In my experience I have worked along side numerous Police Departments & agencies(local, county, state & feds). I have always considered these people my brothers & sisters.
In my 17+ yrs. at the M E's office I had the heart wrenching experience of removing 2 bloodied badges. The badges of 2 heroes, 2 partners, 2 friends gunned down, brutally murdered in cold blood.
The 1st July 1, 1993 a "girl cop" named Hawkins, Officer Connie Hawkins. The 2nd some 8 yrs later a boy cop with a girl's name, Beverly, Cpl Michael Beverly.
I would like to think that they are back on patrol, together in a quieter sector known as heaven under with watchful eyes of God & St Michael, protector of the heavens & patron Saint of law enforcement.
Rest in peace.

Connors words in Women's Division, Delawate County Prison 1988 when I was 19 and green. "Don't trust these bitches over here for a second. They'll hit you just as hard as the men and they twice as vicious. " You were my senior, and never lived to where I could call you my equal. But your memory lives on in my heart and I think of you every time I hear 911 HamgUp.

Connie;
I trained you for the street but I didn't do a very good job because I wasn't there when you needed me the most. I'm truly sorry that I failed to protect you. As I'm writing this memo I'm crying because I think of you all the time. I remember how you use to yell at me when I would stop a car and not call out, then you would come searching for me then yell at me. You will be in my heart fore as long as I live.
