I was Gary's FTO in the sixth precinct. I had a really great time with him, we became good friends, laughed alot did the job and stayed in contact. On my last 4/12 he came up to Glen Head to share a beer with me He was a shinning light who was really good with people. It's 30 years and I still miss him and I think of him often

Gary, not a day goes by that I don’t think of you, hear your voice or the phone call telling me you left us. I tell all my students about you and how you used your own money to replace an elderly woman's rose bushes torn up by seniors on a scavenger hunt. You were a caring man and I was lucky to have worked with you!

Gary was one who could light up the room with his joviality. I had the pleasure of working, knowing and even bowling with him on the 7th Pct league where he would heave the bowl nearly to the pins before it landed. A terrific kind, intelligent P.O. a true loss to all who knew him.

Gary, I never forgot you! I tell
all my LEO students about you! From the rose garden you planted for the woman whose was vandalized to the smile you always had when I saw you, how can anyone who met you ever forget you! You were the type of cop all should aspire to! Miss you and till we meet again….

As a kid in the early 1990’s, I used to work at Bay Stationery putting newspapers together, you were a towering figure and, as a 14 year old I was intimidated because of the uniform... but you were always nice to me. You’re one of the reasons I became a police officer for the NYPD....21 years and counting. God Bless you P.O. Farley.

I am remiss in missing your anniversary in heaven. Gary you were a sweet guy and always knew how to treat people with respect. You were a great guy to work with and I still remember getting the call at home so I wouldn’t hear about you on the news. Your smile and mustache will always be remembered. Till we meet again....

Car 719 - I remember like it was yesterday. Really great guy and a great cop to have protect our neighborhood. I would see him at Bay Stationary or ABC Deli as a kid and always said hi with a big smile and his Tom Selleck moustache. Always treated my family well. I remember when he passed, sad day. Rest in peace.

Was thinking of you and remembering that day when you got a call to the old ladies house where the kids took all her rose bushes and made a mess. She was so upset since that garden was her babies. You went to the local nursery, using your own money bought some replacements and planted them to surprise her. That was how you rolled!! I see your name on the film credits when you worked for Hollywood. I cannot ever forget that phone call while on maternity leave that you had been taken from us, they didn't want me to hear it on the news. I think of you a lot Gary and tell all my criminal justice students in North Carolina about our great department and you! Love you!

I was pulled over by him when I was 18, screeching tires etc, he treated me with absolute respect and spoke to me like a DAD instead of a police officer. Good man.

I had the honor and distinct pleasure to have worked with Gary in the 7th Precinct. I cannot remember a day when he was ever angry, disillusioned, or anything less than professional. He could always make people laugh and he made me laugh all the time. I have particularly fond memories of the 7th Precinct under and over 30 softball games. Gary played on the over 30 team and played catcher. He would be so historical behind the plate that you could barely swing the bat. Anyone who ever worked with him or came in contact with him came away feeling better about their day because he was sure to make you laugh. He is sorely missed by all.

Although I did not know Gary very well I certainly remember him from our academy class (July 1986). I remember him as a good guy who "got it". I can still see Gary running with his baton in the air while a class supervisor was barking at him as they did everybody. I remember Gary would just keep running while yelling "sir, yes sir", all the while knowing that this was just part of the experience and nothing was going to stop him from completing the mission to get through the Police Academy. After the Academy I remember seeing Gary from time to time and each and every time he was always a gentleman with a great attitude. Gary is most certainly one of the good guys and is missed still.

I am not especially good with words, but Gary had 'a way' with people that's hard to describe. We grew up together on the same street, went to the same high school, my dad was a Nassau County Police Officer, Gary was in my wedding party and life went on. I think of him, his life cut painfully short and his family often and pray they have peace.

Officer Farley,
On today, the 19th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Nassau County. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. I can't help but agree with some of the people who posted reflections. The person that did this to you should have got more than a $500 fine.
