"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I have never met Robert John Williams. He did leave behind a very close friend who misses him dearly. When I go visit him I get to view Special Agent R J William's art. I am just sad for his family and friends. I wish he could still there for them and that he will never be forgotten. Thank you for serving our country and protecting us. I am just a regular citizen who appreciates all the public servants and their families who better our nation. Wish I could of met you. God Bless and sincerest sympathy to the families and friends of Special Agent Robert John Williams.

I had the pleasure of working with Rob for about a year in the late 1980's when he was assigned to a multi-agency task force. Not only was he a dedicated professional, but he was an exceptionally funny guy and a terrific artist. I laugh every single time I think of Rob drawing caricatures of us. You are still missed, my friend, but will never be forgotten.

Agent Williams, today marks the 14th anniversary of your murder at the hands of a group of social misfits. You attempted to serve a lawful court order and met with fierce gunfire. The ONLY persons responsible for the deaths of you and your fellow agents were those people inside that compound and they were the ONLY ones responsible for their ultimate demise. You and your fellow ATF agents are heroes for the risks you took in doing what had to be done.

My cousin is currently an Agent with the ATF and I’m very proud of him and can only say, the ATF has my total respect and I curse those who try to take the blame away from David Koresh and his collection of lunatics for what ultimately happened in Waco and place it on the men and women who were simply doing their jobs, you included Agent Williams.

God Bless you and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.

On this the thirteenth anniversary of
his tragic death, I wanted to honor Robert's memory. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Special Agent Williams was brutally murdered in the line of duty along with three other officers.

This is a pain that never goes away for those who loved and cared for him.

May you all continue to be comforted and supported by your law enforcement family, and by other police survivors who share this painful journey with you.

Robert's valor and dedication will always be revered and honored. May he rest in peace.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, February 28, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Special Agent Steven David Willis, Special Agent Conway Charles LeBleu, Special Agent Robert John Williams, and Special Agent Todd Wayne McKeehan who died in the line of duty on this date eleven years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Agents Willis, LeBleu, Williams, and McKeehan's sacrifice will never be forgotten.
