Sam I was the new guy and did nt know you very well, but you and Lt Clain (who has now gone on to his reward), lived and died as Police Officers..with honor.
Before I retired, I went to several memorials for you over the years and it was my honor to be able to say.."We served together"..althought be it for a very short time.

You are among the several names on this site I worked with and who left doing what you loved..my heart bleeds for all of you.

By the grace of God, I survived to retire.

I know all you guys are attending Roll Call in the sight of God..Rest in Peace

Sam,
I remember it like it was yesterday, though 25 years have now passed since that terrible Christmas. We met when I was a reserve police officer at DBPD. I was 19 years old. Some of the "regular" officers didn't like having "reserves" ride with them. You never had a problem with it. I can only imagine how much patience it took for you to let me ride with you, all the time asking questions, thousands of questions. But you were patient, and you never grew tired of me (or at least it never showed). I remember you telling me how you had worked for FP&L as a lineman before becoming a cop, and how we always ate at either Denny's or "Hog Heaven" bar-b-que at Auditorium & Atlantic whenever I rode with you. You were just great to a wide-eyed rookie cop, a great role model, and a great friend.
I was in Indiana that Christmas 25 years ago. I didn't learn what happened until I got back. But not a Christmas has gone by that I don't think of you. I've grown up now. Turned 45 this year. I was a "regular" officer with the Shores and DBPD and Port Orange. All those questions I asked, and the answers you gave, came in handy. Now I'm a lawyer, prosecuting attorney in Tallahassee. All the college and law school can't hold a candle to the education I got at the police department, some of it right there in your patrol car. Twenty-five years, hard to believe it's been that long.
Take care, Sam

You are not forgotten. I only knew you when I was very young but you made a strong impression on me. That Christmas day was one I'll never forget. In loving memory. Ginger Scott
