Reflections for Trooper II Jose M. Cavazos

I'll always remember that night at the Dale City exit. As I pulled up in my cruiser I couldn't believe what I saw.
Rest in peace

I have lived in Pr.Wm.Co. for 23 years and cross over the memorial for Jose quite frequently and always think of what happened and I am so sorry. However I'm glad they got the ones who did it and that they have payed for the crime. I thank the men and women who protect us with high respects. I would hope time has healed much, for it has been 15 years since I lost a child and time and another child has helped me heal along with our Heavenly Father Above. God Bless You and your family and anyone else who may read this may God be with you all!!!

Jose,
I have worked in area 11 for two years now and driven past your memorial several times, Each time I think of your family. You still have friends that miss you here and talk of you now and then. I have learned that you also were in the gulf war, (I was in elementary school then). You did so much and sacrificed so much, I feel so greatful but at the same time in your debt. You lead by example Trooper Cavazos.

I never had the pleasure of meeting you but you have been in my thoughts since 1993 and even more so since 9/11. Your family in your death has been a true inspiration in my life because of their ability to show love like I've never seen since. Thank you for putting your life on the line to uphold the laws of our great country and I thank the same system of justice for administering its penalty justly. My best regards to your family.

02/24/06 well it’s been 13 years, but know the man who did this has paid for it with his life. So Rest in peace Jose, you may be gone but know you will never be forgotten.

I can't believe that it has been 13 years since you left. I was working the night when I heard the news. I shared court dates with you when I was with PWCPD. You always had a smile just like your picture here on ODMP. I attended your funeral. I have never attended such a funeral. I drive past Fairview Cemetery every day now that I live in Culpeper. I always glance over and think of all that happened. We never forget. I hope and pray that your family is doing well. We will all meet one day on God's Kingdom where there is no violence and only peace. See you on thee other side one day.

Recently Jose' Cavazos' family marked the eleventh year since his death. His two adult children and myself certainly remember, we cannot forget his life and untimely death. His legacy now includes a grandchild, who someday will learn of the sacrifice of her grandfather, but sadly she will never hug him or know him at all.
I miss and think of you daily and know that foremost you were a wonderful husband and father. I believe that you are in God's presence and at peace.

I pass that spot on a regular basis and the memorial left there by your loved ones never fails to bring a small prayer of thanks from me for all that law enforcement does for us.
