Reflections for Police Officer George E. Elder

It seems like only yesterday that we laughed and loved and commited ourselves to our chosen profession of law enforcement. June 9, 1961 changed our families' lives forever. I have thought of you so very often during the past 51 years. I still see your big white smile and remember your unselfish heart. I miss you dear brother and I know that we will meet again in a far better place.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 51rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

I pray for solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections

His brother was David Elder, who went on to become Chief of Police in MP. My father, Thomas Woodring, was a Lt. on that department. He worked with both men. We have a photo of this funeral. The fellow officers, especially Dave, looked as though they wanted to be ill. He was (from what I've heard) a really great guy.

My dad told me about how he came to your side to try to help you when you were shot. The story he told of you always stuck with me and I grew up feeling that a hero was taken from us. Rest in peace my brother.

George, I was 11 when my father, Deputy Chief of Police Bud Austin, received a call that you had been shot. He raced out of the house and didn't come back for hours and when he did he was speechless. You are one of the reasons I became an officer and all I can say is thanks and rest in peace

I was 12 years old when you were killed in the alley next to the Star market. As a child I would walk where you died and think of what a hero you had been. The memory of your actions was one of the reasons I spent 32 years as an officer. I'm retired now, thanks for all you gave and the example you set for me. God bless your family..........
