Reflections for Officer Richard D. Duvall

I knew Dick when we served as Reservists in USMC VMF141 squadron at the Alameda Naval Air Station in 1952. Following active duty we both attended Armstrong College in Berkeley after which he joined the CHP.
By the time he was killed I had two of my three children who are now retired and I am 88 years old. I think of Dick often and mourn the fact his life was cut so short. Over the years I have met CHP officers who knew Dick and remember him as a fine officer. I remember him as a good friend and a fellow Marine. RIP my friend.

Rubin A. Rogers, ID 2753

The Rogers family is sad to report the death of retired Sergeant Rubin A. Rogers #2753. Rubin passed away on July 10th 2015, one week shy of his 88th birthday, due to complications from Alzheimers disease.

Rubin was a graduate of Academy class CTCIII-58. During his 28 year career, Rubin worked in the Victorville, San Leandro, Indio, and Oakland Areas. His family was the first in CHP history to have a father and 3 sons as active members of the patrol. (Michael #10012, Ronald #10304, and Kevin #10926, all now also retired.)

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lena, and leaves behind 5 grandchildren, John, Cary, Sara, Kyle and Laura and daughter in-laws Alice, Janice, and Melanie. Rubin also served in the U.S Navy during WWII.

To Robert Jr and your family, please accemp my condolances. I believe that Richard was a family member and I remember stories told to me as a young man. I grew up to be a Law Enforcement Officer and often think of all the men and women that have given their lives to protect others.

To the family of Officer Duvall, I often stand at the CHP Memorial Fountain at the Academy and polish the brass plate with Officer Duvall's name. I did so as a Cadet and thought of him and you. I am now a sergeant and very proud to know that I had a cousin who served the State before me.

I am a distant cousin related to the officer on the Duvall side. My great grandmother's maiden name was Duvall and I know she attended Officer Duvall's funeral. I would love to meet any of his family, please email me at [email protected]. Sergeant Lori Harmon, #13532

Officer Duvall,
On today, the 48th anniversary of your murder, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of California. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. It took another year, but your murderer finally got the justice that he deserved.
