Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Gilbert A. Duthie

I am a medically retired Deputy out of San Diego. I was hit by a drunk driver in 2019. Now I am walking from San Diego, CA to Lubec, ME raising money for injured Law Enforcement Officers and for abused kids.

Seeing your memorial and the very end of my walk today moved me. You and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Officer Duthie,
I also didn't know you but I did know your daughter from school as a child so when I heard about your passing, it hit me hard to imagine what your daughter must have been going through. Every time I see the sign post on the road with your name, I remember back to the day I heard. I remember the details of the bridge out even 48 years later. I honor you and all others like you that serve the people. Where would we be without you?
God bless those you left behind.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 43rd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Brother Duthie,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue
