Reflections for Principal Keeper James B. Durnin

I said a little prayer today for Keeper Durnin and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 84th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace

James Durnin was my husband's grandfather. My husband never met his grandfather, since he was killed before my husband was born. My husband's mother was only a teenager when her father was killed. She always told stories about her father - about his Irish roots, his work with inmates at the prison, and his fair and compassionate nature. He sometimes brought inmates to his home to feed them before they were permenantly incarcerated. At the time that James Durnin was killed, it was rumored that the killer actually acted on behalf of a group that wanted an elevated position within the prison hierachey.
