Reflections for Corporal Betty Dunn Smothers
Betty,
I remember the night that you were taken from us as if it were last night. I remember the rain, tears mixed with the rain as officers gave you CPR, driving the ambulance to the hospital, the sad look on the doctor's face as the sheet was pulled over your body, and the officers in the pouring rain surrounding the hospital to protect the lone surviving witness. The 23 Psalm as your body was carried into the Centroplex for your funeral. The miles and miles of police vehicles, EMS trucks, fire trucks, and thousands and thousands of citizens.
You will never be forgotten, nor will your ultimate sacrifice be forgotten. Rest in peace until the last day when we will all be raised up for the final roll call.
