Your heroism and service is honored today, the 50th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. I was glad to pay tribute to you today, but saddened by reading the reflections left by your daughters and see the loss they suffered. My grandson Cody was born 2 1/2 months after my son was fatally shot, and I know he will always feel the same loss your daughters experienced.

Rest In Peace.

Herbert was remembered with his tall form, his beautiful blue eyes and quick smile. He loved both of his daughters, his brother, and Mother and Father very much. He was missed very much by all of his family and friends of our family. He was a generous person. Herbert was a wonderful father. His daughters lost a important part of their life when he was prematurely taken away from us. May God bless and keep him.

My very last memory of my Father in this lifetime was the weekend of his death. He was not suppose to work. We were moving into our new house my Father bought. He worked for another Officier. My Father had given my a puppy before he left to go to work. He pushed me and Cindy (my new puppy) on my swing set and told me he loved me, gave me a hug and tickled me. Then he walked away. This is for the Policemen and women who are curious or knew my Father. My Father had 2 brothers, not one. His brother Val lived in Japan where he was born. Upon my Father's death my Father's Mother took me and herself to live with her other son Val in Japan. We lived there for 8 years or more. To every Officier out there, think about what you are doing very carefuly, make sure to let everyone close to you know how much you love them every time you leave to work.

Dear Daddy,

This week our Mayhill community (near Cloudcroft, NM) lost a well respected member of the Otero County Sheriff's Department, Robert "Bob" Hedman. I went to his memorial services and remembered you too.

My heart will always hold a special place for our law enforcement officers -those that watch over and protect us each and every day.

I went to see your name at the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall in Washington DC this year. Your grandchildren and great-grandchildren now own a special rubbing of your name, taken from the marble walls, and they will never forget.

Love,
Your Daughter
