Reflections for Patrol Inspector Augustin De La Pena

I never met my Great-Grandpa Augustin but remember my visits to the Rio Grande Valley as a kid. We had relatives in Laredo as well as Weslaco and Brownsville, TX. When I joined the Air Force in 1984 I dreamed of getting stationed in Texas to be closer to my mom's family. Finally got stationed in San Antonio in 1996 but unfortunately my mom passed in 1998 and grandfather Roberto Delapena passed a year later. Would love to get back down there to visit their gravesites and see how things have changed. God Bless Great Grandpa Augustin, you were a hero to many sir.

I work for the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station. Yesterday, on his 97th anniversary, we located the cemetery and grave of Patrol Inspector De La Pena. We plan to do some cleaning and improvements to the site.

If any relatives of his are on here and have any stories or further details on Agustine, feel free to look me up.

Thank you for your service. You are related to me somehow. My grandfather on my dad's side was Jesus De La Peña and was from the Rio Grand Valley. He is burried in the same cemetery as you. He died in the 1950s. My dad, Jesus De La Peña, Jr was 9 when his dad passed away. Everyone has passed away in his immediate family. My dad is his only child still alive. I was looking for family history and I came across this story. I see the family resemblance (as the De La Peña genes are strong) I've visited your town and have met some family members. I thank you for all your service and sacrifice to our great nation. I will keep your memory alive as I share your valiant story with our family. God rest your soul and rest in peace.

This is my great-uncle on my mother's side. The story I have of the incident from our family history papers, tells us a more detailed story of what happened.

RIP Augustin... another August is coming and I will take a moment to remember you. My mother keeps the story, as told by her grandmother of what happened on that day in 1925.

I carried this story with me for a long time and will always regard your memory with great honor.

Thank you Border Patrol agents who left messages here. My family appreciates it.
