Hey Joel,
It's been 27 years since we lost you. You are gone from this world but never forgotten. I often think of you and the times we spent together. Your laughter and smile always brightened my day. You are missed my friend.

27 years today. No mother could have ever wished for a better son than you, Michael. I heart hurts everyday I spend without you. You were the love of my life and the best son in the world. I love you more than ever and now you have been gone longer than you were with us.

I love you,

Mom

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.
GOD Bless

Every time I drive through or around East Palo Alto, I remember you. Anyone riding with me learns about how you are such a true hero.

I also lost a friend, like you a true hero, in the World Trade Center attack on Sept 11. (Fire Marshal Ronald Bucca). Every time I speak about him or other heroes, I remember you, too.

Like Ron, you could have worked anywhere you wanted. You and Ron both didn't have to be where you were when you made the greatest sacrifice a person can make.

You -- and everyone who influenced you to become the person you were -- are owed a debt by society.

I can only hope to make it to your level to see you again for Final Inspection.

26 years today. It's been a long 26 years and at times sad but there are good times, too. I always miss you for those times.

Michael, I was thinking of you today, as I hung the flag for Peace Officers Memorial Day. We worked together at your Father's shop. I was saddened to learn of his passing iin '07'. He really never the same after your passing. I know you two are in Jesus loving arms.

To Joel, family & friends.

In 1989, I was a newly hired Reserve Officer with the E. Palo Alto PD when, during my first week in training, my FTO (Matt Spray) took me on the route of Joel's last call for service. While driving and with tears in his eyes, Matt told me the circumstances of the call how that night ended with Joel's untimely and senseless death.

Even though I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Joel, I knew by the tears flowing from Matt's eyes Joel must have been someone really special. Not just special to Matt but, his family, friends and the community at large.

I will never forget Joel or his story and I know, by looking at the post on this blog that I'm not alone.

Godspeed Joel.

Though it's been over 24 years, I still remember that night like it was yesterday. Waking your parents at 2:00 am and taking them to the hospital that night was definately the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

You were a fellow officer, a friend, and a next door neighbor that will always remain in our hearts and prayers. One day, God willing, we will meet again.

Former EPA PD Reserve Officer

Joel, I was the last person to talk to you on the phone that night. I was working the EPA radio when the call of a man with gun came in at Nairobi center. We hung up as you dashed out the door in your civies to assist Sgt Eatmon on the call. Worst night of my life working that radio, I held on for 8 hrs still working and coordinating the units on scene..Joel and I go back a long way working as reserves for San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. We both shared a dog bite from a K-9 from the S/O chasing a burglar in downtown Redwood City 0300 in the morning. Crazy days then.. You'll be missed.
