Reflections for Officer James A. Davis

99 years ago today - thank-you for the sacrifice you made so that others may live. Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his brother.

This was my great grandfather. This story has been told to me since I was young, and now I patrol the same streets that he, my father, and now my brother, son and I patrol today. I talked about it in shift-meeting this morning. He was also employed as a milk inspector before he became a police officer. A runaway ice-wagon got away and he tried to stop it, being hit in the chest with the horse-drawn wagon's yoke. He died the next day. My grandmother said she remembered as a young child hearing him struggling to breathe as they visited him in the hospital.
