I was 15 years old when you died. I was not a fellow coworker, wife, old girlfriend,Mom,Dad........I was a young lady that was blessed with your kindness, generosity and wholesome goodness. A poor family we were, you loved us no differently. Our house was falling apart....you wanted to fix it. We needed family time.... You made it happen(The Mohawk Trail). Family gatherings felt so special because you made the atmosphere fun and so alive. You handled a house of Italian women like it was nothing. Jack you are still loved, admired and respected 36 years after your death. I pray for your baby girl Jackie, your wife Donna and your family that was devastated by the accident that took your life. God bless all the families that have lost a love in order to protect all of us.

Your loving family

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 36th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Jack

I remember the afternoon as if it was yesterday. We had just come on duty and this was our first dispatch. When he answered the door with the rifle we all took cover behind my cruiser that' s when you slipped off the curb and your service revolver accidentally went off. Our conversation seemed to last forever along with Frank Fallon until we were able to place you in the back of Warren Bolden's cruiser who drove you to Mt Sinai. You had asked for a 1/2 day off to go home to your wife that day.

Always remember YOU.

Jack Daley was a credit to the Hartford Police Department and to that select group of people who live a code of dedication, honor, community, and selflessness that permeates all they do.

Jack Daley was my best friend and the person I could trust, confide in, and count on in difficult times. He was simply a wonderful human being, a loving husband, son and brother. His death was all the more tragic since he was denied the joy of the birth of his daughter Jackie, the child he wanted so deeply. John would have been an exceptional father guided by love and good decisions.

Jack served his country in Vietnam and returned to serve his community as a policeman. He was an asset to the force and often took on the precarious duties of going "under cover".

I never expect to meet another whose life represents so much that defines good as did the life and actions of John Daley. I was fortunate to know him, to have his friendship and to learn, through his actions, how important the police are in our lives, the pride that goes with the badge, and the respect the badge commands.

John, all of your friends and family miss you, none more than your wife Donna and Jackie, the daughter you would have treasured. You would have been pleased that my wife Debbie and I named our only child after you, our treasure, our daughter, Jackie.

Jack and I were married for a very short time in 1970. What a skock to find this, I had no idea that he had passed away. Jack wa a wonderful man and a wonderful father to my son John. For reasons only I could understand I left Jack and my son John. I did love them both very much, but at that time was not ready to be a wife or a mom, Believe me Jack made ever effort to make me and my son happy. I just want his forgiveness and I pray that his last years of his life that he was very happy and in love with a nice girl. He deserved the very best. Jack was my first love and I have never been able to find another man like him. Jack I did love you with all my heart. May you reat in peace and may your family be at peace also. Ann Watson.,

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
