Reflections for Officer Robert D. Dale

Officer Robert Dale may you rest in peace. There was another officer named Robert Dale, an Atlanta officer who died accidently shooting himself as his gun jammed. Maybe related?

It’s been 63 years since you gave your life doing what I’m sure you loved. Being a motorman says it all. The elite of the Blue & Gold. May God be with your loving family and May you rest in peace. You are still in our hearts and minds.

My folks passed away these past several years ago and left us boxes of pictures. In there was Robert's CHP picture. His brother, who's name escapes me, was my mom's step father. I was nine when Robert died and remember how upset the family was. I'm going to frame his picture and my friend retired CHP Officer Scott Wall will have it placed in the Orange County Communications Building.
RIP Officer Dale. Wish I had been old enough to have known you.

Robert;
I was a CHP Officer from 1969 to 2007 spending my 38 Yr. field career in the Indio, Ca. squad. I knew nothing of your story until the early 1970's. I met your father, I presume Wayne's, and Jerrold,s grandfather in a chance encounter in downtown Indio Ca. His name I think was Don Dale. As I remember he was quite tall, a very nice man, and he owned a local bail bond Co. After meeting Don, and Don telling me of the incident, I looked it up, and it has forever been on my mind, and it will always be as well. Wayne, and Jerrold, Your father, and grandfather were, and would be very proud of you, not to mention myself, the entire CHP Community, and the public. The best of all to the entire family. Danny Saam.

As your youngest child, who was too young to know you or have any memories of you, it's difficult to know what reflection I should leave on this site dedicated to you and all of the other peace officers who have died in the line of duty. First of all, I thank you for creating me along with the most wonderful mother anyone could have. I grieve for the shortness of your life and pray that God has welcome you into His kingdom.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 49th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

I've followed in your footsteps...nearly 29 years now with Fullerton PD...15 of those years on motors. I'm recovering from a serious collision, but I hope to ride again before I retire. Dad, I've never forgotten your sacrifice, and I hope I've made you proud of me.

Fullerton, CA Police Department

Being a motorman is what you loved. Unless you have been one, no one knows the feeling. I was only a few months old when you died, but in my later yearsbecame a motorman for the state as you did, about the same age. Being involved in a crash in 1996, I was fortunate enough to continue, but not on what I loved to do...ride. You are on the ULTIMATE motor squad now. Rest easy Brother and watch over us. I will look forward to seeing your Ultimate motor wings. Until we meet...
