Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
The leaves change their colors. Unfortunately, those acting callously don't stop. You tried to plant the very foundations of peace with some old fashioned ferocity, Officer Cook. A mainstay and one dignified servant, your honor and forthright integrity shall never be overlooked. The class and character were within the walls of Dade County making safe trails for every humble citizen. Humility salutes you for enlivening society. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Time passes us by before we can act, best to react and reach some resolve.

No disgrace. No dishonor. Tragically evil that permeated where you voluntarily went to assist your comrades under fire, Officer Cook. Liberty City in Miami, Florida is a known hotspot of bedlam and mayhem, a decent and honest man saved life and property with basic intuition and know how. Instincts of intelligence only enhanced our peaceful routes of choice and for this , Officer Cook, may Our Master of the universe bless your shining spirit. The interruption of common sense and your passions that prevailed during a nasty and violent afternoon of chaos and pandemonium. Humanity strives to allow some humility to come through unabated. You performed, Officer Cook at the highest level of department standards of conduct and courtesy. Most heroic and most resilient. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Pageantry is a happy thing. Perseverance and resourcefulness are tougher to find when violence strikes an area. You were in Dade County, Officer Cook, covering the bases where we relied upon your saving trust and grace to make that distinction. Satisfy the throngs with sheer energy and willpower so long as honor and humility stay associated to your character, dignity and wisdom of integrity. Spelling that out and performing are two entirely different things. But you were heroic and concerned for our welfare and now forever does Our Lord have your cherished spirit watching over us. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Turtles go back into their shells for protection. Citizens can retreat into their castles for safety. Police can't just ride away forgetting their solemn affirmations to serve and to preserve the public trust. Your word, Officer Cook, your honesty and integrity meant all the difference that day and everyday. You labored on behalf of Dade County where you continue to be humbly, heroically and humanely etched in our thoughts, hearts and prayers. There is no consolation. Only condolences over your untimely death at the hands of a madman with a scarred and callous heart. Yours gave and gave humanity more humility and character than if you had lived to be one hundred. Your mother, Mrs. Cook, if she is still alive and well at the tender age of one hundred and three has a daughter, your big sister, Nancy and of course yourself, her darling "Billy." Pious and reverent, respected and respectful. For some it's hard to facilitate. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Our Master in heaven with His gallant group of heroes and heroines, perfection is now reached and eternity can extol your virtues, Officer Cook. You were one brave soul! Your mom's faith and devotion have surely sustained her all these decades after your dad, Charles passed, may he too rest in peace and after your sacrifice. It never should have come to that. But, peace and security are what you represented and enriched righteously.

It behooves one to comfort a family in mourning. Your family, Officer Cook, lost you way too young. At twenty-five with more life left to cherish, more work left unfinished, always the kindest soul, refreshing and humble. Dade County where you worked and served the citizens was proud to have you on board. Integrity, honor and the scopes of dignity trying to arrest crime. Sometimes we get caught up in our own affairs. For you, Officer Cook, our families lived around the block from each other. Does not mean we did not care. We did and I'm sure never going to forget your humane and heroic sacrifice for harmony and liberty. It is the stimulus for a safer and more secure future, one made brighter if you were here to witness these bountiful enhancements. Your faith and loyalty delivered. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. God deemed your pathways as finalized. Mr. Pearsall should have never plotted his demented actions against society and of course against you and your colleagues who serve honorably and protect wisely.

Replicas are likenesses. You cannot duplicate desire, dignity and integrity all alone. Every woman and man called must seize the moment and summon the power to act justly and smartly. When evil menaces our very lives and existences, good public servants know what is instore for them. They have to act, react, think on their feet and have some plan of attack in mind. You did, Officer Cook, though very sadly on May 16, 1979, you were taken by a surge of violence at one berserk man's hands. Just terrible! Humility and resolve ripped apart by a lowlife of an individual, very heinous! Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Character and commitment on your accomplishments leaves a large legacy to fill. Your family eager awaits the day when they can see you again. Take care too Mrs.Cook.

Exams show our resolve and knowledge of a certain subject. Police must pass rigorous tests before they ever face the reality of evil on those streets and avenues where action will do most servant's talking.
