Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

Violence needs to have the drapes and curtains pulled on its seedy and most heinously shady actions. Your trustworthiness and fairness, Officer Cook, was what is expected from all honorable and loyal public servants. Dade County was given the assurance of safety and quiet pursuits of happiness and your inspiring humility, heroism and resolve challenged other colleagues to perform in the same manner. Never more honored for restoring humanity's image, one made brighter by a bold and cherished human being. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Violence does not just need a tongue lashing, it needs more sophisticated weaponry to scuttle its nasty advances throughout mankind, society and humanity. As curious as man is, police must be on guard for any possible attack or retaliation. Never one to rant or rave nor boast, your life and career, Officer Cook, was filled with nothing but sure fire honor, boldness and the dignity that integrity and character represent. Dade County was a place where peace and the personification of your steady perseverance and heroism was noticed. Our shelters and havens were lined with staunch loyalty and the happiness you too , Officer Cook, deserved to live for not die at the hands of a most cruel and diabolical man. Evil strikes at our hearts and your tenacity tugged at terror's torrential storm of serious mayhem. You served and protected as any valuable professional would. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

When the chandeliers start shaking, one had better be ready for something to occur. Violence shakes, pounds and taunts us at our sleeves and so finely tuned men and women race and rush to action. One block away yet you and your last partner, Reserve Officer Scott Lincoln , Officer Cook, were not dispatched, required to attend to that which became a fateful domestic scene where your life and career of honor, integrity and character were rudely taken away from your family and brave peers of trust and heroism. Yours, Officer Cook ,has been solemnly, humanely and fondly honored for all the prosperity and peace you assisted in ushering into the streets and various foundations in and around Dade County. A stellar job well performed and nothing but praise for laying down your fundamentals for satisfaction and courageously putting forth the great endeavor. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

I meant to say, Officer Cook, it will be because of your humility and heroic actions that violence will be gotten rid of forever. The eyes and ears of Our Creator continue to stay affixed upon His creatures and marvelous public servants who look to unlock the very vice grip that evil has upon our land. One that is supposed to be safe and secure. If you are raised properly with values, ideals and morals then honesty, integrity and dignity will proudly carry one's own unassuming character. Dade County and its residents had a grand man of gallantry patrolling the streets and now your sweet and beautiful soul roams freely in those big blue skies where perfection is finally achieved. Officer Cook, you have been welcomed with open arms for your service and duty beyond the calls of action. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

We make lavish plans. Our Creator of heaven and earth makes grand plans. Whose preparations take precedence? Of course God's and we are all born to fulfill a certain role and purpose in life. Your role, Officer Cook, was to protect the outer and inner corridors of all Dade County. For accomplishing so much in your twenty-five years, may Our Master bless and reward your soul of courage and unrelenting honor, integrity and the charisma of a dignified young man. A heroic man who dreamed and made the most of opportunity when it humbly knocked on your door. Bargains and deals are not always the best plans of action to attack the cores of callousness. You need more basic effort and the humble services of all duly affirmed women and men, brave and honest in their hearts and souls that gave and for some like yourself, Officer Cook, one who gave his life of treasured character and loyal commitment to the people of Dade County. A breath of wisdom, vision and clarity blowing full steam as harmony and stability were trying to encircle the region. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. A job well done, Officer Cook. Police work requires an entire field of ferocity and the tenacious honesty that brings the levels of dignity and integrity to the top. Dade County received A plus service from a very devoted and most versatile man. Too young to have departed this world because of unnerving violence. Mr. Pearsall's proclivity should have been in making his community better rather than worse. Your heroism and resolve fighting long and hard through difficult moments made that distinct difference. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero of character.

Relationships and friendships share a common bond. That thread of hope, peace and decency that must be alike in every way, shape and form. You had lots of friends, Officer Cook, loads of peers from all over who attended your Inspector's Funeral on May 19, 1979 at St. Mary's Cathedral to pay respects to you and your beloved family. You death leave an indelible impression on society and the sting somehow decades later can still be felt. Pulsing right through the bodies of your loved ones while they pursue and carry on with your smile and purposes and happiness of life. A career marked by respectful resolve, honorable intentions and dignified pathways by which integrity may flow. Never forgotten, a hero and a gentleman whose youth was never lost. That spirit was immediately uplifted to heaven where your dad, Mr. Charles Cook, may he too rest in peace along now with his beloved Julia. Your reverent and humbly pious mother, Mrs. Cook. Your mother carried on her stoic life without her darling and heroic son for nearly forty years without seeing your radiant face ever again all because of a mad man lacking character, morals and some semblance of faith. Three Cooks are solemnly remembered by their daughter and your big sister, Nancy. Mountains of pictures, millions of memories warm, poignant and sad. Life does move forward as you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Heaven and Our King have your brave and loving heart seated next that throne of sanctity and harmony forevermore. Karen, your beloved widow who remarried ten years ago has those keepsakes of your solid constitution and consideration for all humanity. Mankind rests at night and still keeps your fervent hopes and aspirations alive and overflowing with joy and gusto. Your life just should not have ended that way even though you were performing your official duties to protect.

The partnership with the community is extra vital in creating a bond of esteem, loyalty and the honesty between police and the civilians. You watched over an entire area in Dade County, Officer Cook and because of your vested interest you remain a legend of stability, humility and above all heroism. A quiet and unassuming character that was all due diligence and virtuous vigilance. Saluted and paid homage for forming those bands of boldness now and forever high atop those clouds and blue skies in the most peaceful and perfect of sanctuaries. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. To absorb a loss is one thing, then to go and lovingly carry those torches of your wise and clear tenacity is another matter.

Panels get put up to protect during storms. Too bad those side panels were not around during your day, Officer Cook, as they are now because of your sacrifice. Dade County's legion of heroes and heroines all branded with bravery and honor, integrity and dignity's characters. You rescued, resolved and were most efficient during tense times. All the accolades and homage should be afforded you my neighbor, friend and hero, whose unwavering ferocity helped lead the troops of respect while you persevered. Hacks and whiffs won't abbreviate terrible violence. Hitting and missing either won't eliminate the downpour of violence. You spent some lunchtime periods as your colleagues put it in "the zone." A kind and compassionate young man, a brother officer so gifted and yet some humble. Honesty and integrity, dignity and character that never got your head, Officer Cook, you just did your job and overwhelmed Dade County with your humane and heroic actions of onus. Passion and persuasion, it should have made Mr. Pearsall reconsider and to surrender when you directed him to. Your hopes and goodwill are now part of your beloved family's inspirations and goals as they carry the torch of your legacy, one saluted and validated by enhancing character, stoic commitment and the very sterling of conviction. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Those KFC lunches with Officer Jeffrey Jackson had to be the best. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. The hallways of those serenely perfect grounds of heaven are humbled by heroism and honor. All the capacity and dignity that make integrity stand tall and proud. Angels of valor with smiles that lit up their families and communities of nobility and distinction where they valiantly served and protected the public. Dade County was your mall of morals, character and mettle where your unending tenacity roamed the various venues looking for the satisfaction of peace while searching for unmitigated evil. Violence just hides and even the righteous get caught in that abominable crossfire of callousness and bedlam. So very sad, Officer Cook, your life and career ended by you simply performing your usual excellent job. Keep watching over your family and peers, your esteemed colleagues of truth and trust. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

The sacred plot of land where one hero or heroine is humbly laid to rest is that stark reminder of the frailness of life. To make that sacrifice exposing one's dignified and honorable soul of serenity to evil surely makes you stop and ponder. To wonder what would things be like if you survived that brutally diabolical day, Officer Cook, serving and rescuing Dade County from the callous clutches of a mad man. The reality of that enormous circumstance was your principles and integrity working in sync with your devoted and decent character. Your grave where you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook, is that distinction between brave and a lack of morals. Someone bad can repent and hope forgiveness comes. You'll be forever missed, Officer Cook, your spirit and humility gently touch those angels whose wings are perfectly in unison.

Birds migrate and so do evil people to commit heinous and ghastly crimes. Their passions are better suited for something other than hurting communities where peace and stability not just call out, they cry out. Dade County needed your effort and essential honor, Officer Cook, they got the entire package of bravery and dignity from your undying integrity and strong character. Commitment is an amazing tool when tireless tenacity is applied to all sides. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Cheap suits are just that. There is nothing cheap about crime no matter the severity. Serious investigations must occur and those culprits responsible must be immediately brought to justice. With great humility and honor's loyal esteem you performed just that way, Officer Cook, trying to tame a monster that was clouding Dade County's hopes, aspirations and further dreams. For all the dignity and integrity, for all the sensational production, may your soul that delivered unity and liberty rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Character rests forever. Your legacy lives on in your family's genes of hope and goodwill. We stay guarded and positive. The cost of one life, the trouble and anguish all lasting forever even as peace and freedom try to enter through the front doors of truth and fairness.

The winds of stormy evil erode those roads and freeways where honest people look to pass through. You were a consummate officer, friend and comrade to many other excellent and scrupled public servants.
