Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

A fool does not look at the gifts of life. A wise person looks at the half empty bottle and challenges themselves to do something positive. Dade County needed a leader, motivator and a man of heroism ,honor and principles. Six years of dedicated service brought truth and trust closer to reason and common sense. Your life, Officer Cook, truly epitomized dignity and vision packaged with integrity and some semblance of serenity. Keep watching over your peers and family who pursue lives of justice and joy. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Bravery never brags. Valor is your vision. Wisdom is that window of knowledge and prosperity. Your missions of goodwill, Officer Cook, delivered sound results for Dade County's folks. Everything in measured tones, mettle, morals and discipline. Honesty, integrity and dignity that stoked those flames of ferocity. Your life and career should not have been ended by senseless violence perpetrated by one man acting with regard for decency and humility. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

The clergy who married you and Karen that day, Officer Cook had to have seen such a special couple. A man who was raised as Karen was with honor and respect, who knew what God expected from a great public servant. Dade County had its good times and not so good moments as tension and unrest filled the airwaves that day you answered your very last call of duty. Blessed with bravery and boldness, nothing was going to deter you from rescuing your comrades and trying to end Mr. Pearsall's day of destruction in undermining your department. Humility bestowed upon a blessed soul and for having acumen and wisdom, Officer Cook, may your spirit be bound in His wings of pristine clarity forevermore. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

I'm sure Reserve Officer Scott Lincoln was an excellent partner as I understood he rode once a month with Metro-Dade Police Officers. Partners are the extra set of eyes and ears that Our Creator gives to His honorable flock of angels here to patrol for peace while searching for terror and other wanton crimes. You were a superior individual, Officer Cook, honest and humble, trusted and firm who distinguished himself in all traits. Character, conviction, heroic commitment and of course those words of courage through integrity and dignity. Dade County and its citizens were and will be forever indebted to your life and service time here. Now you walk that proverbial beat observing other fine women and men performing as admirably as yourself. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We all wish you were here to enjoy your retirement with your beloved Karen and the rest of your adored family members.

The air we take into our lungs come from God Himself. The powers He humbly bestows upon His public servants come from His advice and perfection. Police work is a demanding occupation filled with peril, yet it comes with humble and heroic rewards that meets those who stay the course and persevere. Your honesty and reverence, Officer Cook, allowed Dade County and its people to live freer lives of joy and good health. No doubt if you had survived that tragic day when God called you home, you were headed up that humble ladder where your career would have been more pronounced in the sense of more leadership abilities all accounted for by your unselfish dignity, character and integrity in trying to stop a most evil man who abruptly separated you from your family and colleagues until that day of redemption.
