Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

Not how he died, but how did he live life as an honorable hero. Not where did he gain, but, what he give. These are the units to measure the worth of a man as a gentleman so humble and dignified, full of integrity. Not what was his station, but , did he have heart? You surely had a very compassionate one, Officer Cook, that strived to bring sanctity and harmony to Dade County citizens. And how did your partake in your onus to serve the public? Did you prepare a word of goodwill and hope? To smile and to banish tears. What was your shrine? What was the creed by which your unselfish character and respect will be saluted and certainly treasured forevermore. How did you patrol and assist those requiring extra concern? Not what did the newspaper say when you sacrificed on behalf of your community, but, how many humbly gathered to pay respects to you and your family, peers too who worked and toiled diligently alongside of you. The proof, Officer Cook, was in your entire being, concerned and gallant. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

A man who is devoted and honors his father and mother should be blessed with a long life. Police work does not though offer any guarantees. Even to the most serious of souls with a heroically sacred heart and humble calling. It's sad and appalling, Officer Cook, that violence took you at age twenty-five, a young man whose trails had more to blaze. Dade County was granted your vital and humble character in providing excellence in all you accomplished and you certainly succeeded beyond any shadow of doubt. You fought for your life and that of the civilians that you undertook a bond of valor to defend. Their tranquility and happiness all harnessed on your broadest of shoulders. To weather the burdens, to unlock the codes of contentment, surely never easy and you'll be sacredly etched into your family and comrades' hearts and thought forever. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Honor slumbering securely against those heavenly backdrops.

When honor, humility of character, integrity and dignity fighting the ugliness of wickedness are deemed by Our Creator as complete, the sacrifice made and the heart and soul ready to return to the earth from where it began and heaven to undertake a more important eternal journey, one's loved ones start the process of mourning their loss to society, they bare emotional scars so deep, the sorrow and grief surely can be overwhelming. They were for the Cook and Wilkerson Families as they all continue to miss you, Officer Cook and "Uncle Bo." A fine and upstanding character and public servant of the highest integrity and heroic dignity. Charm, charisma and care breathed life into those suffering afflictions, a lack of security for their travels and some deserved unity from all the tensions, unrest and violence perpetrated against humanity. You'll forever be honored and praised for your unselfish actions, tireless energy and immense maturity, thoughtfulness above and beyond the calls of duty. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
