Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
As we pray, God is inviting us deeper in and higher up. There is training in righteousness, transforming power, new joy, deeper intimacy. You prayed Officer Cook, for God to instill knowledge so that you could tackle whatever problems arose. In marriage too, couples deal with issues that arise from time to time. Now that you're in heaven next to your beloved father, Charles, you can help Him transform all his goodness down upon your loved ones and friends. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

When a country is lawless, it has one ruler after another, but when it is led by a leader with understanding and knowledge, it continues strong. You followed rules and regulations, Officer Cook, this is why you were able to keep the peace and calmness that is called for in the community. Your agency is getting ready to name a new director chosen by the Mayor of Dade County, Mr. Gimenez. Let us hope he or she can lead the department to even greater accomplishments and the morale can become even stronger than before. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. You honored us through your work ethic, now it is up to us to honor you and inspire others to act the way you would want us to carry on.

It might be a good idea to ask ourselves how we develop our capacity to choose for joy. maybe we could spend a moment at the end of each day whatever may have happened as a day to be grateful for. In so doing we increase our heart's capacity to choose joy. Each and every moment of your life and marriage to Karen, you both, Officer Cook thought of ways to make each other happy. I'm sure you both were very happy, serene and grateful for the time God gave each of you to be together. We wish you had more time, but God determines our years and the object is to take what we are given and utilize it the utmost, which you did. You cannot imagine how you are missed by your family, friends and fellow officers who know you were so immensely popular and dedicated to your official duties. If you were here today with us it would be better than a deliciously baked pie. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

No beard, no understanding. I don't think Officer Cook, facial hair can detour you from functioning on the job. I do know departments all have different rules regarding an officer's hygiene. I'm sure you were very well groomed and meticulous when performing your job. I heard of one police chief who did not want his male officers to have pierced ears with jewelry hanging from them. That is his right as the top police official. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered. When you dealt with situations Officer Cook, you had to employ common sense along with being even-keeled. This is the most effective way for an officer to carry on with their assignments in serving their communities. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Reflection enables our minds to be stretched in three different directions- the direction that leads to a proper relationship with God, the relationship that leads us to a healthy relationship with others and the relationship that leads to a deeper understanding of oneself. The relationship you had with your parents, your wife, Karen and your fellow officers was borne out of love and affection, trust, integrity, honor and being able, officer Cook to feel out when you needed them the most. When you needed someone to rely upon, they were there for you. On May 16, 1979, you stood tall and were there to back up your colleagues. It takes someone in your profession with the right persona to summon the courage to carry out your assignment until your very last watch. Please watch over us my neighbor, friend and hero. Rest in peace. I wished you and my family Officer Cook had known each other, I guarantee we would have had a special bond and a lifelong friendship based on all the merits that endeared you to so many people.

The purposes of a man's heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out. You were able Officer Cook, to instill wisdom and success in others because of your nature. To fully understand what you went through on that fateful day, we may never fully comprehend, only to know that you gave your very last ounce of effort to stop a dispute from turning deadly. Through your braveness and sacrifice you permitted others to live on with their lives, but as I've always stated, you'll never be forgotten . Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

We were made for God. Only by being in some respect like Him, only by being a manifestation of His beauty, lovingkindness, wisdom or goodness, has any earthly beloved excited our love. We are all made in God's image, it's just certain people are able to fulfill their dreams in a shorter time not necessarily in a round and about way. For your twenty-five years Officer Cook, you were able to mold and nurture the values that you were raised with along with your sister, Nancy and take them to a higher level, something that police officers need to properly channel their wisdom into, if they are going to carry out their jobs effectively like yourself. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

A misty morning does not signify a cloudy day. The day Officer Cook, you sacrificed your life was a beautiful sunny day, Chamber of Commerce weather. The darkness of losing you can never be erased from our minds. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. The community you served is less fortunate because of your loss and we can only march onward as you would want us to.

I have learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not on our circumstances. For all of your training, Officer Cook, circumstances do not always dictate a positive outcome. But my neighbor, friend and hero, you are resting in peace surrounded by those officers who gave up their lives as you so faithfully did executing a proper face whenever you policed Dade County streets.I'm sure most of them exhibited a cheerful face looking forward to the challenges that were placed ahead of them.

If you prize wisdom, she will make you great. Embrace her and she will honor you. She will place a lovely wreath on your head; she will present you with a beautiful crown. Officer Cook, my neighbor, friend and hero, for all your endearment to your community, you now reside with God's mighty crown resting in peace and you'll never be disturbed. It is up to us to honor you the proper way you honored creation.

Happiness is in great measure the result of our own dispositions and actions. The happiness and calm you brought to your job, Officer Cook, helped you solve cases better than if you were a renegade officer which you were not. having a feeling for something is not a terrible thing, a going on a hunch is not bad either. Your wisdom and knowledge helped guide you through difficult moments. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Justice and power must be brought together, so that whatever is just may be powerful and whatever is powerful may be just. The justice and power, Officer Cook, you had helped you bring those committing crimes and wrongdoing to the proper channels. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice. You can find me on Righteous Road- that's where I walk- at the intersection of Justice Avenue, handing out life to those who love me, filling their arms with life-armloads of life! You sure do Officer Cook walk now and forever on God's righteous streets with your beloved father, Charles. Your giving us all the love and affection that you so lovingly gave us while serving on this earth. Your mother and sister are receiving all the love of your father and you and they pray that your souls rest in peace, my neighbor, friend and hero. When the time comes you and your father will be at God's heavenly gate to greet them.

Evil people do not understand justice, but those who follow the Lord understand it completely. You took an affirmation, Officer Cook, to protect and serve Dade County citizens. You carried this out to your last watch with all the integrity and honor that one should have on the job. It's a shame that you are not with us, but your loving family and friends know you are watching over them. It's also a travesty of justice for people who harm or worse take a law enforcement officer's life to be able to walk away from punishment. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

His justice is full and complete, His mercy to us has no end; the clouds are a path for His feet, he comes on the wings of the wind. Your colleague and friend, Detective Don Blocker used deadly force on the person who took your life. As you my neighbor, friend and hero, rest in peace in God's clouds of glory, we will never forget where your feet, Officer Cook, were solidly placed. The foundation you laid for other officers is one that shall remain forever.

When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers. The evil carried out that fateful day will not be forgotten and neither will your courage and bravery in trying to quell an argument that escalated beyond what it should have. My neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook, rest in peace and lookout for your comrades below who so valiantly wage battle.

If you know the father and grandfather you may trust the son. I'm sorry I never had the honor to meet your beloved father, Charles. Obviously, I was not yet born when your grandfather was alive. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, Officer Cook. Judging by your wonderful upbringing, your father raised you along with your mother, Mrs. Julia Cook, with the truest of values. This was the essence of your life, that is held so dear by many people today. My dad, Owen, may he rest in peace would have enjoyed being in the company of your loving parents along with may mom, Bernice, may she rest in peace. As neighbors and friends the Cooks and Davis family would have enjoyed each other's company. You are my hero and you should rest in peace.

A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly. This is the reason Officer Cook, you were able to deal so well in handling domestic disputes. There is a place and time for laughter and being jovial. I understand you could look or say something and the whole room would burst out laughing. We are not laughing now, we are still hurting over your tragic loss. But we know you are looking in at us and making certain we are laughing and enjoying our lives with humility and carefulness. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction. This can either benefit or put an officer in danger Officer Cook. You used your mind precisely how it was to be used. that is to solve problems before they got more difficult to achieve a positive outcome. Knowledge is proud that it knows so much; wisdom is humble that it knows no more. The boundaries are endless in a person's pursuit of each. You know my neighbor, friend and hero, that is why your humility, Officer Cook, will be a part of your revered legacy. Rest in peace.

A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom. I'll assume you were an avid reader, Officer Cook. You and Karen both enjoyed a good book and took time away from your profession to enjoy the times you had together. if you could bottle wisdom and understanding, it would make you a very well off person, Officer Cook. You just held your head high and made your loved ones and friends proud to have known such an upstanding person. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Buy the truth and do not sell it, also wisdom, instruction and understanding. A person Officer Cook, we know they can never have enough of these magnificent traits. They were a part of your genes that made you a more gifted person than others. You used the tools of intellect that God gave you to help fulfill your dreams and aspirations. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Unfortunately, Officer Cook, I read of officers selling forbidden things, kind of like selling the badge that they are supposed to wear humbly while serving the public interest.

All God's glory and beauty com from within and there He delights to dwell. His visits there are frequent, His conversations sweet, His comforts refreshing, His peace passing all understanding. Officer Cook, you were one of the sweetest people known to man, it's a shame I never had the distinct pleasure to have met you, though we were neighbors. When something happened to others colleagues, I'm sure you were the first person they went to for comfort. Now that you have passed, where do we go? We beseech Our Creator for answers and one day we will have them. But for now, rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

An unreliable messenger stumbles into trouble, but a reliable messenger brings healing. You Officer Cook, were one of your department's most reliable police officers. Your work and that of your partner at times Officer DiGenova, who life you saved on May 16, 1979 because of your heroic actions were rewarded for excellent police work. Maintaining a low key no nonsense approach usually gets good results. It's a shame he has had physical problems because of the shooting and I hope he is getting along as I know you would wish for him, nothing but the best. He misses you, as do the officers involved in that awful day when we lost you. Your still thought of highly today and everyday. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Talk not of wasted affection! Affection never was wasted; if it enriches not the heart of another, its water, returning back to their springs, like the rain, shall fill them full of refreshment: That which the mountain sends forth returns again to the fountain. You were probably a very affectionate person, who received much love from your parents and showered this upon Karen and likewise she did this to you. You were the true son who never let your beloved parents down. You made them Officer Cook, very proud to call you a loving son, so loyal to them and to your peers on the job. That is why we should never take for granted anything. Your inspiration was a refreshing source for your department. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
