Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
We live not in a universe of being, but of becoming. We are in a constant state of creation and sometimes favor isn't fair. Favor comes to those people such as yourself, Officer Cook, who knew how God operates in this world. The purpose of human existence is to express the purpose of the spirit of God in the material world. The whole aim of creation is manifestation. When we are born the job is not over, on the contrary, you have to take the challenges of dilemmas that lie ahead of you and figure out ways to solve them. A master you were, Officer Cook at this. God's spirit testifies that your soul is now with Him helping Him watch over others as you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

God is a verb. This means He needs us to act and with a positive zeal and you must be in alignment of purpose with Him if your actions are to bring forth the manifestations He so desires. Your heroic actions that day, Officer Cook, caused you to bring about peace, though it came at a precious cost. You'll never be forgotten for your courage and you should rest in peace, my neighbor, friend and hero.

When you declare "I am." You become God. You imitate His ways by practicing and preaching according to His teachings, which you faithfully discharged, Officer Cook while on duty. If you desire the thing, declare yourself to be the thing and it will manifest. You spoke the words that God wants to hear and to familiarize Himself with and He made certain it would happen to you and lo and behold through diligence and hard work, He made it reality. Since you were aware of God's nature, you were constantly aware of your own surroundings. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

For who has known the mind of the Lord, that He will instruct him? But we have our talents to utilize which He implanted in our minds. You were given a mindset, Officer Cook, that was far more intellectually superior to others and you employed it with a positive emotion and put forth the effort to carry out your duties the way officers should: with honor, dignity and integrity. You can never go wrong this way. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

There is a direct correlation between reverencing God and loving knowledge. One cannot truly love God without also loving knowledge. The Creator is knowledge and He does not wish His creation to be God forbid, ignorant. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Officer Cook, you applied the lessons your beloved parents taught you and your sister and made excellent usage of them to excel at being the very best police officer you could be. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, bravery souls such as yourself don't come along everyday.

Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, they would not accept My counsel, they spurned all My reproof. You were one of God's faithful servants, Officer Cook and you took the direction the Lord pointed your compass in and took off on a journey that made you the class individual that served his community with honor and distinction. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Because of your kind and gentle ways, Officer Cook, I'm sure this will assist in bringing the Messiah quicker than we can bat an eye. God gives men and women such as yourself, Officer Cook, the strength both physically and spiritually to carry out their assignments with both honor, dignity and integrity. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

While engaged in the line of duty, it's easy to lose your temper, something Officer Cook, you were able to avoid I'm certain more times than not. Your approach seemed to do the trick in turning a negative problem into a positive resolution. We can't turn back the clock on that fateful day-May 16, 1979, if we could we would. As noted by other reflections your direction was stellar, your bravery was far above outstanding. You'll always be our hero, your family's hero and angel to be sure. You were Central Division's special public servant who made sure people were safe and secure. Your intuition was light years ahead of the pack. This is why my neighbor, friend and hero you forever will be remembered for being the man of the hour. I hope your department saw fit to honor you as the officer that we all knew and loved. Rest in peace. Heroes are forever!.

For all your positives, Officer Cook, the greatest influence you had on your peers was your kindness and ability to extend this trait to others. Certain positive behavioral characteristics are catchy if passed on to others. Obviously we can describe your life in so many ways and the fact that your last day in this world was spent doing a courageously marvelous act, one that every person, every law enforcement official would be most proud of and that was to save several lives, putting yourself, your very being into harms way. You were the greatest as your family can already attest to. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

When police officers speak or to give advice, we must be sure who is really speaking and where the words are coming from. Are they words or just words for the hour? I believe the words of encouragement, of advice had a sinking effect on all officers who you either worked with, Officer Cook, or just came across during your excellent career. Words if not interpreted correctly or honestly can cut like a knife. But I think the words you spoke had real meaning and were meant for the most part to make the atmosphere feel at ease. May we be strong and strengthened by your motivations and inspire people as you did to be confident in pursuing their goals and dreams. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Lord, You are the one faithful God, consistent in all Your ways and persistent in Your pursuit of me. I am so glad that You didn't give up on me, despite my foolish rebellions and wanderings. You never let me stray far from Your love. By Your grace, I choose today to walk in the consistent persistence of the word of God. With Your spirit's help, I will not quit any of your assignments, but will see them through to the end. Lord, sometimes I get weary in well-doing and discouragement starts creeping into my heart. Remind me often of Your faithfulness in the past and Your promises for the future. Deliver me from the desert of'have-to' into the oasis of 'choose-to' living. You have given me incredible freedom! Lord, You are the model of total integrity, faithful to Your promises, keeping Your covenant even when others fail. Help me to keep all my agreements, to stay accountable to You and others and to practice what I preach. Let me be a person of action, not just words. Amen. Officer Cook, without wavering you put God in charge and he lead your way. He took you right into the presence of His glory with a true heart as you were fully trusting in Him. because of your well planned life, you put God in charge of your work and what you had planned did in fact take place. You were His ever faithful servant, Officer William Coleman Cook, badge#1664. American Express had a slogan regarding their credit card. "Never leave home without it." Actor Karl Malden, who be the way played a police lieutenant named Mike Stone as did actor Michael Douglas, who played Inspector Steven Keller on the show, The Streets of San Francisco in the 70s and early 80s was its spokesman. Here's a relatively easy slogan, that you fully understood and all officers should be able to comprehend if they want to maintain dignity and honor and stay safe. Integrity-Don't Leave Home Without It! Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

God know what we need, but he knows He likes to be asked. Diligent effort brings confidence and assurance. Keep on asking and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking and you will find. Keep on knocking and the door will be opened. You capably put your trust in God, Officer Cook, as did your beloved wife, Karen. After all these years after your untimely passing, He was able to stay with you and Karen and helped her continue her life. But I'm sure she misses you and probably cries at times and this is normal. I'm sure your mother and sister well up and this is normal. You were taken from us at a young age with so much more promise ahead of you. But all of your loved ones realize you'll be forever their "True Blue Hero" and God's treasured angel, who along with your beloved father, Charles, are assisting with others who made the same ultimate sacrifice as you did in watching over those officers in this world serve and protect others. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We always say prayers for your soul, Officer Cook, for God to watch over you.

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you will recover your life. Walk with Me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you'll learn t live freely and lightly. God observed you living your life, Officer Cook, for all your years and years filled with production and accomplishment, God was walking in His ways with you directing your righteous and most courageous trails. And now as you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, you can have an eternally peaceful slumber that will ultimately rejuvenate your beloved soul and that of your beloved father, Charles' as well. Continue to keep vigilance over all your family, friends, peers and whoever you and Karen befriended during your lifetime. We'll always miss you and I will miss you too. I somehow always think of you Officer Cook, at night when driving someone to the airport or if I see a plane flying high above us. Don't know the correlation, but always thinking of you and your wonderfully dear family at this holiday time and at all times of the year. One thing never to be stripped from you is your dignity and spirituality.

The way of a fool seems right to Him, but a wise man listens to advice...He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. The people you were friendly with along with Karen were only first class people and even in times of being jovial, they were individuals who accomplished as the two of you. Others can educate and inform, but let your decisions be a product of your own conclusions. This too is why you were able to lead other officers my neighbor, friend and hero. Rest in peace.

Disgust and resolve are two of the greatest emotions that lead to change. Everyone can get frustrated from time to time, but it's officers such as yourself, Officer Cook, who can put these incidents in their rear view mirror and resolve to control what you can control. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

And we know that in all good things god works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be confirmed to the likeness of His relatives, your fellow officers, Officer Cook, who gave their lives and were predestined to be His servants in heaven. You are now among God's glorified angels, because vision is wonderful, but without the implementation of successful habits it will remain wishful thinking. I don't think you can go too far outside the box, Officer Cook. Your assessments of a situation must be firm and have solid validity in order to pursue trying to diffuse a problem that might crop up. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Because of your valor, you final eternal destiny is to help watch over others from the heavens above.

Make level paths for your feet and only take ways that are firm...Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. He who heeds discipline shows the way to life. Where there is no vision, the people perish. You took directions Officer cook, very well and were able to lead other officers because of your proper code of conduct and outstanding performance. I think you would have made an excellent K-9 officer and it goes without saying you would have preceded up the ranks of your department. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. You were a gentleman of inspiration and quality vision.

Set personal goals for yourself-don't wait for others to do them for you. You always knew your pathway in life, Officer Cook. You did not need to declare in public your loyalties. Your loved ones knew where you would hang your police uniform and cap. Your effort was solid at all times, as was your preservation of the lives and properties you watched over. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Are you soaring like an eagle, with your wings carried by the breeze? Or are you crawling like an inchworm and cannot see the forest for the trees? Rise up, valiant one, child of the King! Your beloved Lord calls you today, to run to His presence for wisdom and strength and from His abundance show others the way. As one of God's beautiful angels, Officer Cook, it is up to your very soul to lead us in the forests of wisdom and strength that made you wiser than most of your peers and helped you overcome challenges of your position from time to time. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. The bigger your dreams, the more help you will need. Reaching your highest vision requires more than talk! You provided the action based incentive to achieve beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

Faith is leaping across the gaps between the known and the unknown... The actual and the possible. The grasp and the reach. There is always a chasm between where you are and where you are going. By faith, make the leap forward! Give Me 100 people who fear nothing but God and hate nothing but sin and we will change the world. Give us 100 Officers as you were Officer Cook and we can definitely make a huge dent in crime across this great country: The United States of America. Confidence come sin many forms and you my neighbor, friend and hero were supremely confident in your abilities and it showed in your performance ratings. Rest in peace.

Focusing Prayer: A Passion For Purpose Lord God, I praise You that You have not left me alone, wondering about life. Your holy word is full of insights and principles that will empower me to honor You and fulfill my destiny in the Kingdom of God. I want my life to say thank you for all You have done for me, I ask that all my attitudes and actions, all my praying and playing bring You joy. Help me to spend personal time with You everyday, listening to Your Holy Spirit, reading Your word and praying for others as well as myself. help me to remember who I am before You, even when the boss gets mad or my spouse is insensitive. Help me to honor You in every success, knowing it is Your power and wisdom at work. Lord, help me to love myself in a healthy way, appreciating Your love for me and my unique gifts and talents. Open my eyes to opportunities to serve others who cannot return the favor. Keep my heart tender and my hands generous to the infirm and the poor. Awaken my spirit to special moments when I can share the gospel with others, in word or deed. Give me a burden for those who are not yet believers. help me to share Your eternal love and to live each day with gratitude in my soul. Amen. Until you make the first move, God will not show you the next step. Officer Cook, you always had your life-motivated and inspirational compass pointed in all of these directions: loyalty, honesty, dignity and integrity. I know you never uttered anything from your holy lips that was insensitive or rude. Your sense of humor as I read was infectious. Your existence was entrenched in assisting all people from all backgrounds, races and whether or not they were affiliated or not. You deserve all the accolades due to a truly compassionate human being who dedicated his life to making us feel wanted and protected. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Approach each day with child-like curiosity and you'll see god's touch all around you.. You live in my heart, you have from the start, you have always been there, and I have been too blind to see, that it's not about me. It's all about your love, that;s the reason we're here, to give us the life you hold dear and surrender to your love, will I ever let go, trying to master this show, on a stage made of sand. And now that I know what's true, am I ready to give, all of myself to you, or hold on to this pain that I feel, when I hold back giving my love to you, and yes, I've made my decision, I'm not turning back, as weak as I am, because I know, I know in my heart, it's all about your love. It's all about your love. It's all about your love. This sums up your life, Officer Cook, devotion to God, faith, hard work, and all achieved through the years with honor, dignity and integrity so help me God. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Words that can make a person cry, but so very true.
