As long as you keep to a job, you will only make others rich. Money is not everything, freedom is. God will not give you what you're worth. You must pay yourself Your passion, Officer Cook, created the freedom for you to achieve prosperity. Work from your passion and you'll never work a day in your life. Purpose without passion becomes little more than completing the steps on a to-do list. Passion+purpose+action=prosperity. These ingredients, Officer Cook, were incorporated into your blueprint and that of Karen's which enabled the two of you to succeed in your chosen professions of endeavor. Just by knowing the class gentleman as told by your family members, reflecting on your life and career we can see the picture in its entirety as to whom you were and what you represented. We are all complex beings, a perfect reflection of God. He will never give you want you don't need. You are your habits and if you can adopt habits that serve God, you will master the laws of thinking. The thinking man's police officer, that was Officer William C. Cook. You tried to stay ahead of the learning curve in all aspects of your profession and this enabled you to see the big picture in front of you. The external should never be your reality; only the internal should be. Challenges are God's way of motivating us to expand our minds, change our perceptions and develop our Spirits. You will never achieve great things without going out on the edge and risking. Risk is just "opportunity" misspelled. When you are bold and take a risk and others tell you you're crazy or a heretic, smile. You risked everything on May 16, 1979, Officer Cook and we are sure proud of you and what you stood for and meant to Dade County and its citizens for ever to be honored. You were one of the finest human beings to don the badge of the Metro-Dade Police Department and wear its uniform with humility and the pride and honor that is called for, Officer Cook. Since you mastered the trait of a righteous individual, you made everything created for you possible. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. While engaged in the line of duty, it's easy to lose your temper, something Officer Cook, you were able to avoid I'm certain more times than not. Your approach seemed to do the trick in turning a negative problem into a positive resolution. We can't turn back the clock on that fateful day-May 16, 1979, if we could we would. As noted by other reflections your direction was stellar, your bravery was far above outstanding. You'll always be our hero, your family's hero and angel to be sure. You were Central Division's special public servant who made sure people were safe and secure. Your intuition was light years ahead of the pack. For all your positives, Officer Cook, the greatest influence you had on your peers was your kindness and ability to extend this trait to others. Certain positive behavioral characteristics are catchy if passed on to others. Obviously we can describe your life in so many ways and the fact that your last day in this world was spent doing a courageously marvelous act, one that every person, every law enforcement official would be most proud of and that was to save several lives, putting yourself, your very being into harms way. When police officers speak or to give advice, we must be sure who is really speaking and where the words are coming from. Are they words or just words for the hour? I believe the words of encouragement, of advice had a sinking effect on all officers who you either worked with, Officer Cook, or just came across during your excellent career. Words if not interpreted correctly or honestly can cut like a knife. But I think the words you spoke had real meaning and were meant for the most part to make the atmosphere feel at ease. Lord, You are the one faithful God, consistent in all Your ways and persistent in Your pursuit of me. I am so glad that You didn't give up on me, despite my foolish rebellions and wanderings. You never let me stray far from Your love. By Your grace, I choose today to walk in the consistent persistence of the word of God. With Your spirit's help, I will not quit any of your assignments, but will see them through to the end. Lord, sometimes I get weary in well-doing and discouragement starts creeping into my heart. Remind me often of Your faithfulness in the past and Your promises for the future. Deliver me from the desert of'have-to' into the oasis of 'choose-to' living. You have given me incredible freedom! Lord, You are the model of total integrity, faithful to Your promises, keeping Your covenant even when others fail. Help me to keep all my agreements, to stay accountable to You and others and to practice what I preach. Let me be a person of action, not just words. Amen. Here's a relatively easy slogan, that you fully understood and all officers should be able to comprehend if they want to maintain dignity and honor and stay safe. God know what we need, but he knows He likes to be asked. Diligent effort brings confidence and assurance. Keep on asking and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking and you will find. Keep on knocking and the door will be opened. You capably put your trust in God, Officer Cook, as did your beloved wife, Karen. After all these years after your untimely passing, He was able to stay with you and Karen and helped her continue her life. But I'm sure she misses you and probably cries at times and this is normal. I'm sure your mother and sister well up and this is normal. You were taken from us at a young age with so much more promise ahead of you. But all of your loved ones realize you'll be forever their "True Blue Hero" and God's treasured angel, who along with your beloved father, Charles, are assisting with others who made the same ultimate sacrifice as you did in watching over those officers in this world serve and protect others. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We always say prayers for your soul, Officer Cook, for God to watch over you.

I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you'll learn t live freely and lightly. God observed you living your life, Officer Cook, for all your years and years filled with production and accomplishment, God was walking in His ways with you directing your righteous and most courageous trails. And now as you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, you can have an eternally peaceful slumber that will ultimately rejuvenate your beloved soul and that of your beloved father, Charles' as well. Continue to keep vigilance over all your family, friends, peers and whoever you and Karen befriended during your lifetime. We'll always miss you and I will miss you too. I somehow always think of you Officer Cook, at night when driving someone to the airport or if I see a plane flying high above us. Don't know the correlation, but always thinking of you and your wonderfully dear family at this holiday time and at all times of the year. One thing never to be stripped from you is your dignity and spirituality.
