Metro-Dade Police Department, Florida
End of Watch Wednesday, May 16, 1979
Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
I meant to say, Officer Cook, that before one casts their rod and reel be careful, very cautious about the temptations that are lurking out there in our society. Temptation never popped up on your radar screen my neighbor, friend and hero. The most important things that should always display themselves on any police officer's radar is honesty, dignity and an intense and burning integrity to do their very best and attempt to perform their jobs properly the first time. By the signs of the sun, the moon and the stars, one day we will reunite with you, Officer Cook, there certainly will be a lot of catching up to do that's for sure. For all creations shall we praise God. The ground where you rest in peace, its grass continues to grow as does our sentimental fondness for a brave and courageous servant of all Dade County citizens. Desire along with devotion and supreme determination carry all brave and valiant officers, it steered you and your forty-one other comrades who too made the supreme sacrifice.

Through the year as blizzards blanket parts of our country, we trudge on walking and pondering what we are to do next. When the weather warms up the snow melts and then we still continue to think what we can do next. It doesn't matter what the climate is outside, we can still act honorably and with a decisive direction and motivation behind our actions. God welcomes all His creatures into the fold prepared to reward them for positive accomplishments and punish them for any wrongdoings against one another. You were a Godsend, Officer Cook, who was brought into this world to perform good deeds and to display valor beyond any calls of duty. The Metro-Dade Police Department was your second home and I'm sure all your colleagues were in your home at some point celebrating and toasting the goodwill of all mankind of which you were an integral part of this life and won't ever be forgotten. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

God of all seasons, Our Heavenly Father, holy is Your Name. You inspire us and lift up all our hearts with happiness and good cheer at this specially sacred time of the year. We look to the sun to provide our days with rays of hope and renewal. We gaze up to the big bright moon at night where our dearly departed loved ones souls shine their brightest. We look for peace, unity and prosperity at all times. Officer Cook, you provided Dade County and its entire community with optimism, courage, bravery and honor so endearing it has never left our hearts. The citizens because of your humble and unwavering act of heroism will always feel a lot more safer than ever before. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. This night of Christmas Eve as your family gathers to celebrate together surely keeps your warming spirit alive in their hearts. All can celebrate by virtue of your faithful devotion, a dogged determination and heartfelt desire to succeed beyond what we all knew you were capable of achieving.

Everyplace is green with growth. The sights and sounds of wonderful advancements as we view them coming from the earth that Our Lord created for our benefit. The leaves blossom, the flowers bloom, the seasons change and we anticipate something special in the air. God's loving grace and hands touch our every move. Forward, backward, up and down, side to side, He moves. He guides our coming and goings. May we inquire and ask for all the prayers to be recited on our behalf for our bodies and minds to work in unison. You did this very well, Officer Cook, the loyalty and devoutness always resided within you. It was your loving care, consideration and compassion steering you throughout your watch over residents of Dade County. God's Divine providence shined brightly over you as does your loving and most treasured soul. All the friendships you gained during your life and solid police career have stood out as a symbolic memorial to a brave young man who lived a humble life and established an even more prolific career cut way too short by this wickedness we brand as evil. You'll be forever remembered my neighbor, friend and hero. Rest in peace.

Life is beautiful when we can do whatever we want when we want. From daytime until night time you enjoyed your life and concentrated on a career path as a police officer. You were a constant and consistent force as someone who served and protected the common interests of all Dade County citizens. Police officers of course cannot just go and do whatever they wish to do. There is no place for rogue and dishonorable members of the law enforcement profession. So before you tempted to cast your rod and reel, think before you act. Officer Cook, you grew up in a loving and very happy home with two beloved and wonderfully devoted parents. They would be very proud of such a determined and bravely courageous son. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Life was indeed wonderful when you patrolled the streets of Dade County for six years of loyal and quite faithful service. Interaction was nothing strange for a gregarious individual such as yourself. One terrifically humble and humane gentleman and more importantly one superior servant of Our Creator.

Your days, Officer Cook, were full of happiness and joy, when you rose each morning as the sun shone to start a new challenge that police works places upon each officer's shoulders. Life is wonderful in the winter, sipping on hot cocoa with marshmellows. During the summer in its swelter you could be at the beach with Karen and your friends, riding the top of a wave or relaxing at a picnic. The most privately quiet times at home when you would relax and unwind had to be pretty special. Were the citizens concerned when you guarded them and made them more safer and sound? No, without any doubts or reservations whatsoever. You brokered and forged good long standing friendships with all because of your humble nature and loving disposition. But, it was your valor, courage and consideration for all your colleagues that heroically appeared in full view of the citizens on May 16, 1979 and those who lead you into these wars on the streets were label as evil. You did your utmost to quell any violence that reared its ugliness. You are to be celebrated in life and saluted for your career full of passion, compassion and cooperation in all mannerisms that you exhibited. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your friends who were wounded and nearly taken from their colleagues and friends are to be saluted for their heroic actions too. Officers DeGenova and Edgerton, along with your partner, Reserve Officer, Scott Lincoln and Detective Blocker, your humble actions have never been forgotten by myself. Your friend, Bill Cook, Officer William C. Cook, was a loyal and devoted comrade to all, his fearless and unselfish actions showed all people and the entire police world why we have so many outstanding and faithful professionals who dare to risk all for our safeties and securities.

Wake up and go out and play, for when the seasons change you may not get to go out today. The flowers bloom, the birds all sing in harmony for we know spring is here and peace and good cheer are everywhere. The trees grow tall, one day they may be pruned to allow further growth another time. Hear God's voice, sweet and soft, let Him take you out to play in His embrace with your friends. His countenance shines forth each and everyday. Your predilection to do outstanding work, Officer Cook, was done superbly each day. Your honor and humility were a mainstay of your life and career lived by the forever loving words of integrity and dignity. It was your duty, your obligation through which you were given an opportunity to serve and to protect the rights and to champion the freedoms and unities of all citizens of Dade County. Nothing more humbler could be asked from one of Our Lord's stellar public servant who displayed heroism and bravery and delivered this each watch to his official position. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. The tall tree near your grave, Officer Cook, stands as tall and steady as it did thirty-five years ago when you were laid to rest with Inspector's Honors for a job well done. It represents the strong and sturdy backbone you too possessed in handling an extremely rigorous and challenging professional police career.

To live and to prosper in good health, peace and prosperity in this world, we realize first we come from a seed implanted within our mothers with our fathers assistance. Some of us struggle to witness the light of day and the moon a sit glows at night. The happiness of seeing good tidings and the pleasure one receives from the successes of their family members makes our hearts grew fonder. Life-birth and the end of one's life are still the hidden mysteries of why we are born in the first place. When the seasons change, new things abound all around and we are at times startled by these absolutely brilliant happenings. You were a man of all seasons, Officer Cook and you took your cues to become a very dedicated and devoted police officer. Today, we should all take our cues from the messages of love and admiration that you preached to Dade County residents. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Honesty, diligence and vigilance all take their cues no matter the season. And there is no reason we cannot accomplish if we just use a little imagination and let the intuition sink in.

For everything there is a reason. Yesterday, in New York, two fine young police officers with families were ambushed and killed by a very disturbed young man. Apparently in retaliation for a young man, Eric Garner, who was killed by police two weeks ago. We are born, we live our cycles of life with honor, dignity and integrity, something most of us should admire in officers who sacrifice their lives and live their lives with. When ill, there is a time for healing, for grief and sorrow, there is too a time for spiritual recovery. We laugh. We play. We embrace one another. We seek council from our friends and those closest to us. We look to overcome any obstacles which threaten to undermine our achievements. There is a time to converse and a moment to be reserved in thought. We look for a moment to love, no hate, a time for war, too many to count, sadly, a time of peace, liberty and unity. A final reconciliation. You served and protected all Dade County citizens, Officer Cook, recognizing when to calm someone and when to share a light moment with your colleagues. You were surely destined for much more fulfillment and for what you brought to this world, your community and your department, you'll always be fondly remembered. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. It is said that only the good pass away young. No reason for this violence, but these gentlemen had lives to lead and a challenge ahead of them protecting New York City's citizens from the same evil that took you from among us.

Within the cycles of our lives and career channels, we dance as the years come and pass. The sun comes out, the moon at night illuminates our world, it is a source, a very beacon of our reflection. We join hands with all who dance, all who celebrate any happy occasion. We then turn away and take leave. We go our own separate way wherever that may be. You left us, Officer Cook, not of your own choice, you were taken away from us because of violence that sadly found its way into the heart of a very troubled young man. Your heroic actions on May 16, 1979, instilled admiration from all sisters and brothers from the police world, literally all over this country, Canada and abroad. The hero in yourself, your heart was beating that day and each and every moment of your cherished life. You did not turn your back on your comrades, you did not back away, instead as all police officers are supposed to do, you looked evil face to face when your comrades who were wounded by this man's evil and nearly taken from among their families too. You saved many more lives, those three civilians and your four comrades have been eternally grateful to you because of your unselfish, unwavering and mighty humble and loyal actions. You represented your department, your community where you cared and gave all the proper measure of kindness and bountiful consideration with the class that all citizens desire from their public servants. From then until now and forever you will remain a Godsend and a most faithful hero who now patrols God's golden streets above where Our Creator continues watching over yourself and those colleagues who gave their lives as you accomplished with much dignity and integrity. Cooperation from all is needed. We need to keep the peace, sanctity and serenity of all our areas and destinations. A happy New Year, Chanukah, Christmas, whatever one observes, we should have all of our police officers and their families in mind at this solemn holiday time. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

I think the term much needed prosperity sounds more proper. And to state that whatever you achieved during your life, Officer Cook, has certainly made a lasting impression. One way the world could both survive and to thrive in happiness would be for all its citizens to endeavor to live their lives in unity, peace and with happy faces. We know that is not always going to be the case. At least we should give it a try. You did more than just try, Officer Cook, as a duly sworn police officer you were held accountable daily for all your actions. Law enforcement personnel should be held to a higher standard, for if the day ever arrives when we totally cannot trust those to serve and to protect our common interests, then where does our society go? It is with the humbleness, the honesty, the dignity and integrity to personally see to it that all people are looked after. We walk upon this sacred ground, the earth, as we come from within our mother's wombs, it is then up to us as to how we can orchestrate the rest of our lives. You handled your professional affairs with a labor of love, goodwill and a real feeling of responsibility and a solemn reliability. We talk. We are taciturn. We look. We touch. We feel our way through something hoping it penetrates our soul. We come. We go. Change happens. When joy comes upon us we celebrate. When grief overcomes us, we are sorrowful. We mourn. We look back and remember the life of our loved one. We come full circle. The cycle of life comes around, each gives way, back to the very beginning. This was how you lived life, my neighbor, friend and hero. Your career was quite valued upon ethical conduct of which there was never any discussion. You performed your duties very admirably and with proper diligence and devotion to maintaining a central core of respect among all Dade County residents. Rest in peace. You made everyone proud.

We are of flesh and blood, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. It's peace and unity at this time of year and all through the year that is so desperately needed. We sink our souls into whatever task is at hand hoping it was make an impression and leave its imprint upon this world. We all can utter with certainty that whatever you took to task, Officer Cook, you completed it with dignity, honor and a sure integrity guaranteed to leave an imprint for all future generations. Mankind is deeply indebted to the bravery which you and all other officers who sacrificed for our benefit displayed while you performed a job, a profession that not too many could handle. The chain of unity that you started for us will never break, for you see it is everlasting. Look at that street sign named to honor your wonderful memory and a life led with faith and conviction. It drove you to success and much more was left unfinished, pray one day we will reunite and catch up on all the time that should have been afforded you. Profit and gain, we look ourselves in the mirror and can still envision your bright smile and humble nature. It is all in the genes. The Cook Family stands today as it did many decades ago, tall and proud, full of pride because of your professional feats. Those feet and your hands provided the more needed prosperity, peace and liberty to all Dade County residents to last forever as you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

I meant to say, Officer Cook, that your smiling face says it all. You made this world safe, resourceful and reliable too. Your courage and bravery served to wake up those slumbering so they could hear your voice. A voice filled with inspiration and wisdom to last a lifetime. People would pour their hearts out to the many brave officers such as yourself and you would lend an ear and give them direction and self-motivation. You were known and loved and gave back to a community more than we could ever fathom. You were the living embodiment of what is good in society and when you were taken, we all cried. Why? After all, you were one of God's creatures. A man of humility. A man of resolve. A man on a mission to bring peace and sanctity to a world crying out for it. We stumble and fall, but we must rise to the occasion as you did so many times and stand gallantly tall. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. I hope your kids, Trevor and Gina enjoyed my humble gift to them. I hope your grandmother, Mrs. Julia Cook is doing well. God bless you all. Merry Christmas and a very healthy and happy New Year to your family. Good luck on your move wherever it may take you. Only in peace and good cheer.

Many work years to perfect their craft and then retire to enjoy the fruits of their labors. The journeys of life can be complex at times, God doesn't always make things easy for our conveniences. Some work harder than others, I can tell you something about police work, it can be and is a very demanding profession, that only certain qualified and highly motivated and skilled individuals can partake in the challenges of serving and protecting. These moving words come from the heart of a New York City Police Officer's son, as my father of blessed memory served the people of the Big Apple for nearly forty years from the late 1920s until the summer of 1966. You served with distinction, Officer Cook and were taken way too soon because of the wanton violence that you took an affirmation to help rid Dade County streets of. The reward for your humbleness, bravery and courage that humanely stands out as a living part of your legacy as our hero is that you are now one of God's golden angels who patrol the streets above watching over those who continue your battles today and everyday. The knowledge you imparted on others has stood throughout these decades and will endure forever. You accepted. You were accountable and made certain those you watched complied with any directives given to them by yourself. We shake with fear. We rise and may fall, to pickup ourselves and continue the challenges of life is what makes living so meaningful. Under a tree or wherever, we stand tall, we rise and endeavor to prosper and accomplish just as you so valiantly performed. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Here we come and here we go. We walk. We jump. We play, all the while with our eyes noticing all the comings and goings. The grass we stroll and frolic on is sometimes moistened by rain, other times it is dry and sparking green. Our instincts are to water it so as to nurture it just as we nourish our bodies with energy we call food and drink. There are those who work and play all day. You worked, Officer Cook and you devoted your energies and bravery to all the foundations and causes deemed properly. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. You enjoyed all your quiet times with Karen, your beloved wife, your smiling face say sit all. There is a time for laughter and a time for serious minded work that helps keep Dade County residents safe and sound.

We convey our feelings to God as He is the ever forgiving king and ruler upon this earth. If we trust in Him, then all we accomplish should be placed within Him as He decides what is best for all of us. Everyday is a test to see if we are up to the challenges that lie ahead. We inscribe so others can read and make out what we are trying to convey. Those courageous women and men who pave the trails for our futures should never be forgotten, only gallantly saluted for their bravery and insightful wisdom and loyalty in leading others. I can say with absolute clarity that you were a pioneer officer during your time, Officer Cook. Passionate about your career, compassionate when having to deal with anyone, citizens or other comrades. You led by example, you performed your tasks with an excellent feeling of care and consideration. Your heroic actions on May 16, 1979, will never go without notice, only remembrances of a humane life, humbly lived and an outstanding career that endeared you to all. God remembers His brave and committed flock of golden angels, you and twenty-one thousand other proficient and highly motivated personalities who answered their calls equally as well. They now have a much more eternally challenging assignment, that is to patrol the golden streets above where no more harm will ever happen to them. Nothing should have ever happened to any of you to begin with, in police work that is not reality as you all accepted the risks and rewards willingly and without regret that come from such fine distinguished service to all mankind. All of you had more to fulfill, to live and to able to retire on your terms when the time was deemed proper. Officer Cook, you were a great man with a giant heart and a very engaging and gregarious personality to match and all of this is missed today by your cherished family, esteemed friends and colleagues. Mrs. Cook, I still say my prayers for you, your son was a wonderful man, devoted to all the right causes of peace, liberty and unity for all. Chief Jacobs, your friend, Bill Cook, Officer William C. Cook, was an esteemed friend, classmate at Norland High School and the Miami-Dade Police Academy, he will never be forgotten for his valor, devotion, desire, determination and most of all his dignity, honor and integrity. That was ingrained within him and his sister, Nancy, from the time they were youngsters. The lessons of life and its messages seem to last with some, the Cook family valued these messages and they comported themselves with proper respect at all times. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

The light of the sun is sometimes too bright, we must squint in order to see. You may not be taking in the air that supplies your lungs with the proper oxygen level. We must live our lives as we see fit, but try and keep this in mind, that we should endeavor to prosper and accomplish so long as we are living. Honor and dignity must be the foundations to maintaining health and a semblance of decorum. You lived your life, Officer Cook, based upon these standards. Your police career was exemplified by these mannerisms as well. You ran. You walked. You went wherever you were called to answer any problem that would occur and you succeeded mightily where others have not. You were brave and courageous, conscientious in all your undertakings. No one could ever dispute this fact. You left us way too soon, sadly, but, the world, Dade County citizens are better off today because of your gallantry and valor thirty-five years ago. You were not only a model citizen, you were a role model police officer, a professional above and beyond the calls of duty. Your treasured spirit still blows in the wind and at night when we retire to slumber, it shines very brightly as do the stars above. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

As the winds of power swirl around us, give happiness to all humans and to all who ever will live on this earth. To all who disappear or who are injured grant them a speedy recovery and help those who search for their loved ones. We spread our affections to those who look for bliss, may they increase. Make our hearts cheerful and spread goodness throughout society. Well or not heal those infirmed, watch over the person less fortunate and bring them fun. Alleviate ignorance and poverty, give strength to make all stand proud and tall. May the eyes of all look hopefully to Thee and give them their food in due season. We hear a voice, Yours awakens those who slumber and so it is life being watched by our Lord, the maker of all things. The Lord made you, Officer Cook, humble and brave, dignified and honest so you would be able to do battle with evil everyday. Police officers come in all mannerisms and it is these character traits which must be properly utilized when they are out on all calls. Intense and intelligent made you the self-confident public servant admired and respected by those people whose lives were forever changed by your gallantry and valor. That courage is not always seen so passionately observed today and that is exactly why we salute men and women like yourself, Officer Cook, who rose to the challenge and were undaunted in facing wickedness face to face. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. your cheery face and positive outlook is surely missed very much today. You have and always will remain in our hearts, those that beat steadily in your loving family members and in the colleagues and friends you amassed through your lifetime experiences. Time marches on as the winds blow, your spirit continues to brighten our society and any darkness that covers our land.

To the older person, we the younger individuals have been here just a short time and we act like we remember quite a lot. In reality we have forgotten what it is like to live a long and prosperous life as you have. If we all want to achieve, we must all try to co-exist in peace and unity. We live for the moment no matter the season, so there is a reason as to why God created each season as He surely arranges the stars in their courses in the skies. You arranged your life, Officer Cook and truly worked hard to plan and to map out a well balanced career. Police officers have plenty to ponder and they must act not just bravely, but with a certain honesty and dignity that allows them to steer through their venues of service and protection and survive as best they can. Your resourcefulness never will be forgotten, nor any acts of heroism that you so professionally displayed while assisting Dade County and its residents. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We live our days as best we can, we assume we are entitled to a long life, but only Our Savior knows better.

We bless You O Lord, who are in heaven, holy is Your name. All the soft meadows and high mountains. You who give wisdom to all mankind let them bless You. The wisdom You impart to all, allow those to praise you. You were precisely the very consummate police officer, Officer Cook, who lived your life, carved out a humble career and who gave his life with the highest code of honor and scruples to enhance all of Dade County. When heroes and heroines go out and patrol the streets in an effort to make them safer, we must laud these officers who personify the very essence of what it means to be brave and courageous. As one of God's children, living to a ripe old age should have been afforded to you, to live a quiet and fulfilling life with Karen, to be able to retire on your terms, tragically we don't get to make or plan for these situations. You were nevertheless, a true Godsend, a humane and devoted professional whose character of determination and dedication will always precede your good name. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Like a little bird singing, we too should sing Your praises O Lord for You are Our Creator. You comfort in times of distress and allow us to rejoice in times of happiness. If birds can chirp and trees can grow and blossom, then why can't we do the same? Whether at night or at daybreak, let us fully enjoy the richness of this great land of opportunity, peace, liberty, unity and prosperity for every person. All people at entitled to choose as they may what makes them happy and then to pursue it with all the vigor and zest for life they we may possess. You possessed this zest, Officer Cook and if not for your honor, courage and bravery, no telling how the landscape of Dade County and its citizens would look like today. Your quest to lead other officers and the very knowledge you humbly obtained by intense and sometimes rigorous training that made you the very cherished, valued and highly resourceful officer you became during your watch of six years. Cut way too short, tragically because of a troubled young man's intentions to hurt those men and women like yourself who fought the battles day in and day out to properly maintain law and order with integrity and dignity attached to their uniforms. Your service to all folks stands today as your legacy among Dade County police heroes and heroines. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

We have been given the ideals of thought and joy. Let them walk as one. Don't tread upon them nor tamper with them as they serve as our guardians to a peaceful and relaxing life. Do not interrupt God's divine message, you may tremble with fear, but let the troubled person be alone in their thoughts until the time is right to assist them. With the greatness we are capable of, we can choose to achieve even more if we stay the course and remain humble and forgiving. Do not tamper with God's creatures, nor speak words of deceit, for they defile and interfere with the words of love and kindness. All share in this responsibility to maintain a certain level of dignity and integrity. It's up to our choosing to do the right thing, police officers have enough on their plates that it is impossible to watch twenty-four seven over us, but they try and do so with bravery, commitment and honor in all their spoken and physical deeds, heroic and challenging as they are. This was your motto, Officer Cook and you carried it out with a renewed sense of urgency and an able body of calming appeal to all residents. The honesty and dignity you delivered to your profession with the Metro-Dade Police Department shall always be held in high regard. Your sacrifice embodied all the stellar character traits that comprised your humbly lived life and career that you accomplished with a total mindset of humility and reliance. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

I meant to say, Officer Cook, that this holiday season serves to unify our community where people of all backgrounds come together for one just cause. Hear our humble cries O Lord, for it is Your wisdom and inspiration that shall lead us away from strife, from pain and suffering and into a blissful harmony. Those who are hungry or thirsty, let them come, eat and drink the fruits of Your unwavering love and affection for all. Grant pity and mercy to all and restore their hearts with a renowned sense of vigor and compassion in Your Name we pray. Make us true friends to all living beings including those that we take in as our pets to love and cherish. You were loved and treasured, Officer Cook, an officer full of kindness and goodwill. Your everlasting spirit brought good cheer, safety and unity to all Dade County citizens. And so it was because of your loyalty, bravery, courage and honorable commitment that we all live in peace and good health to prosper as we choose to. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. This time of year and everyday since you have been missed beyond the comfort of words alone, you have stood humbly as a true police hero whose life dreams and aspirations have helped make a better world for us all.

If I were alone, I might want someone to act as a companion to me. If I were a child, any fears I have would be relieved if I had someone to converse with. This is life, so noble and full of pleasures. It's so overwhelming and can easily seize you by the heart. But this is life, from the day we are born, until the day God calls us to His heavenly shelter. He guides us. He provides us with food, clothing and shelter. The basic necessities. He gives us the strength to overcome any potential challenges that lie ahead of us. He gives life to animals for a reason. He is slow to anger and of magnificent kindness. We just have to pour our hearts out To Him, place our devout trust in Him, act as respectful as He would expect of His creatures. You did all of this, Officer Cook and way more for anyone who could dare to conjure up such thoughts. As a devout man, you worshiped as you chose to worship. Karen and yourself had a great marriage and the sorrow of losing you when you had so much more to fulfill, if only we could comprehend. You were a hero for sure, dedicated to the causes of making Dade County and its residents safer and more secure. You won't be forgotten. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. You lived heroically and gave your life with much honor and humility. I hope Officer Cook as you look down on this community, maybe the light will finally go on and we can catch the killers of Rabbi Raksin on Saturday, August 9, 2014 and those responsible for killing a man on our Jewish New Year we call Rosh Hashanah. He was killed this day on NE 173rd Street and NE 1st Avenue just mowing his lawn. This violence has to be dealt with, you dealt with it doing your very best to eliminate its ugliness from our society.

Let God be involved in everything that you do and accomplish, one will find that the roads to success will not be as bumpy. Our Creator steers each of our compasses in the directions that He finds are for our advantages. God is full of compassion, He is around us at all times and appointed moments. Every living being turns as God turns them. At this time of the year, when our holidays of Chanukah, with the menorah lighting and Christmas, with the lighting of the Christmas tree, this serves to unity our country and our world in peace, good health, prosperity and unity for all. You are surely and sorely missed by your loving family, colleagues and friends, Officer Cook. You truly were the inspirational and courageous member of your family who transferred his passions to another level. That step up was to become the very best police officer within the Metro-Dade Police Department. No doubts regarding your maturity, wit, wisdom and intellect. Coupled with your courage, commitment and resourcefulness it's no wonder you have been forever saluted for your valiant and gallantly humane actions on May 16, 1979. Never one to complain, you achieved humbly because of how you treated all citizens with a sense of rationale, calmness under duress and most of all fairness. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Sweat and toil usually produce the greatest results if applied daily to anything one endeavors to undertake. Police work and its profession underscore this factor and it takes genuine commitment to make it happen.
